Up until season twelve's midseason premiere, Grey's Anatomy fans were adamantly opposed to Meredith Grey and Alex Karev as a couple; they stated that the Grey/Karev friendship is analogous to the strong, but platonic friendship between Grey and Yang. However, in light of the most recent episode, many fans (including myself) have changed their tune . So today I write in defense of the newly blossoming Merlex:

Deep Friendship

All lasting, romantic relationships are founded on a strong friendship. Meredith and Alex have gone through the ringer together. From the first day of their year as interns to every catastrophe they have dealt with since, their friendship has outlasted any other on the show. Their undeniable history and shared experiences together cannot be replicated, as much as Jo, or any of Meredith's potential suitors would like to counter.

Alex is no Christina

As much as people would like to compare Meredith and Alex to Meredith and Christina, a relationship void of sexual undertones, this is not the case. Meredith and Christina are both heterosexual characters; there was never a possibility of attraction between them. However, Alex is attracted to women and Meredith is attracted to men; While this doesn't automatically mean that they like each other, it creates a possibility that never existed between Meredith and Christina.

Alex always puts Meredith first

It's no secret that Jo has been upset about the close friendship between Meredith and Alex. And why wouldn't she be? It seems as if every time Meredith has an issue, Alex is by her side no matter what the cost to his girlfriend. If Alex truly was in love with Jo, he would prioritize her as well as her needs and insecurities. Yet Alex continuously wobbles back and forth between playing the role of Jo's boyfriend and Meredith's righthand man. Eventually, he will need to make a choice and I believe that he will choose Meredith.

So where do you stand on the Jolex vs. Merlex debate? Are Meredith and Alex just close friends or is there something simmering below the surface?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
