Important Things Gossip Girl Taught Me

*****SPOILER ALERT*****

We Heart It

Just a little help from none other than Manhattan's elite.

Your parents are just as messed up as you are.

Remember when Eleanor Waldorf promised Blair the spotlight in her photoshoot, but then tried to trick her and Serena to get Serena to do it instead, simply because her publicist thought Serena modeled better? Or when CeCe Rhodes made Lily Van Der Woodsen choose between her inheritance and Rufus Humphrey, and Lily ended up choosing money over love?

Never be afraid to stand up for yourself.

"You're a Waldorf. People don't tell you who you are, you tell them." -S

Your appearance isn't important, it's what's underneath that really matter.

As much as we've all dreamt about eating yogurt on the top steps at the MET with Queen B, it's not worth losing sleep over. We all saw what happened to Little J and Eric with her yogurt pouring incident and it's just not worth losing who you are or your real friends.

It's okay to ask for help.

Sometimes it seems hard but it's really important to know that you can and should ask for help if you need it. Serena did it for her drug problem and when she finally talked about Peter's OD. Blair did it for her eating disorder. Erik spent time at the Ostroff Center for everything he had going on. Nate let the Humphrey's help him out in the wake of everything with his dad. You shouldn't have to feel alone because it is okay to ask for help if you need it- there will be someone who wants to lend a hand.

There are very few problems that can't be solved with waffles.

At least if you're Rufus Humphrey, that is.

In high school, there will always be rumors.

People talk, they always do. Remember to not let it get to you. High school is the worst and people are shallow and rumors suck, but think on the bright side- at least they care enough to talk about you.

Running away from your problems doesn't solve anything.

Serena going to boarding school didn't change the fact that she slept with Nate and potentially ruined multiple friendships. Chuck changing his name and hiding away in Paris with Eva didn't change his situation with Blair. You have to face your problems head on; they don't just go away, so you'll have to deal with them eventually.

It can be hard to trust people and that's okay- sometimes it just takes a little time.

For her entire life, Serena had been surrounded by her mom's whirlwind relationships. There was man after man in and out, so Serena never had much of a role model when it came to good relationships, which is why it took her so long to finally tell Dan that she loved him. (Nevermind that Dan is actually the worst but you get the point.)

Sometimes you just need to put on a great outfit, be a bit of a bitch, and get things done.

This one was learned from the best, aka none other than Blair Cornelia Waldorf herself. How else can you expect to hold Queen B status?

You shouldn't have to lose your true self to keep your friends.

The downfall of Little J all started when she pretended to be something she wasn't just to get in with Blair and her minions. You shouldn't have to change who you are for people to like you- if they don't like you for you, it's just not worth it.

Know your worth.

You deserve the world, and you shouldn't be afraid to show people that you know it.

Don't judge someone based on who you think they are.

Don't judge a book by its cover. We've all heard it a million times, but it's so true. No one ever though Hum-drum Humphrey could really be the ultimate insider, yet there he was, GG in the flesh.

No matter how messy life gets, you can get through it with good friends by your side.

Sure, they had their fair share of issues, but you'd be lying if you said you never considered the GG crew major #SquadGoals

You know you love me,

XOXO

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
