Why It Is Important For Girls To Have Close Guy Friends

Turns out, boys actually are useful for something.

Why It Is Important For Girls To Have Close Guy Friends

When we were little, we always thought that anyone of the opposite sex was infested with cooties. Then we started to like each other so the cooties went away. But now, the cooties are back, and boys are gross again, but we are, in fact, lucky to have boys in our lives, especially as some of our close friends. While no one could come close to replacing our best girl friends, boy friends are also good to have around. Here are some reasons why it's a good thing to have some testosterone in your friend group.

1. They provide a break from the drama with your girl friends.

Sometimes your gal pals just get on your nerves and are too much to handle, so you need to step away for a little. Your guy friends are usually more than happy to let you hang out with them and relax from all the drama that girls thrive on.

2. They secretly like to gossip just like the girls.

Guys may provide a good break from the girl drama, but when you, your girls and your guy friends are all together, the guys get just as into the gossip as the girls. Plus, they are often a good resource for finding out what other dudes outside of your friend group are up to.

3. They give you sincere compliments.

If one day you're just not feeling super good about yourself or the way you look, your guys friends will be the first to say, "You look beautiful! You're always beautiful." You know this compliment is sincere because they aren't looking for a compliment back. If they didn't think you looked good, they wouldn't have said anything at all. Girls on the other hand could say, "Aw no, you look so good," but who knows if they really mean it... girls are weird. The guy has no personal gain in this situation (unless he's trying to date you, but he's probably not if he's a close friend), he's just trying to make you feel good.

4. They would do anything to protect you.

Your guy friends can often take the place of a big brother, especially if another guy wrongs one of the girls in your group. If you or one of your girl friends gets in a fight with a boyfriend or another guy, no matter how big the kid is, your guy friends will immediately volunteer to beat him up if needed. Even if you know that's an impossible feat, it's the thought that counts.

5. They make you feel safe when you're out.

The chances of getting cat-called or touched in any way goes way down when you and your girls are out with a few guy friends. Even if you're guy friends aren't super big and tough looking, simply having a male presence near you deters any gross, creepy dudes on the street.

6. They don't care how you look.

You could show up with no makeup on, wearing sweats or even pajamas and your boy friends couldn't care less. You can eat all you want without being self-conscious like girls so often are, and you can wear literally anything you want. The guys have no judgments, they just want to hang out.

7. They are happy for you when good things happen.

You can always count on your guy friends to congratulate you and cheer you on when something good happens to you. Whether it be making a team, finding a job or something else that you're proud of, your guy friends are genuinely happy for you because they aren't competing with you like girls are. Often times girls might not be so happy for you because they feel like they are in competition with you, even if they're not pursuing the same things that you are. Simply being a girl means that there will be competition between you and other females. That's why it's nice to be congratulated by someone who actually cares about your accomplishments.

8. Sports!

If you're in the mood to get out and play some football, frisbee or anything throw-able, you know your guy friends will totally be down to play too.

9. They're honest.

Your guy friends are sometimes too honest, but that can be a good thing. They can often help you make decisions when you're stuck. If you're debating whether or not to wear something specific, your guy friends won't hesitate to make a face or tell you that you look weird, or that you look great! Sometimes, your gal pals won't be completely honest with you, and they'll just tell you that whatever you're wearing looks fine. Also, if you have food stuck in your teeth, or some other noticeable blemish, your boys will point it out to you so you don't embarrass yourself in public.

10. They make your parents more reasonable.

For some reason, your guy friends are super good at talking to your parents and they always ask if there is something they can help out with, and your parents love your guy friends because of these reasons. Both the guys and your parents always mention how much they like each other to you, and it kind of creeps you out. "I love your parents, they're so funny/cool/chill," or "That (insert guy friend's name) is a great kid! He should come over more often." Since your parents like this boy so much, they are often more likely to let you go out and stay out later if they know that you're going to be with him.

11. They can open things.

Most importantly (haha), they can open things that you can't. Even if whatever you're trying to open seems like its stuck there for good, and even if the boy is also having trouble with it, he will not give up for fear of losing any manliness that comes with opening things and saving the damsel in distress. Jars, cans, anything. Having some dudes close by to help you out doesn't hurt.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
