When you're in a sorority, you have about 150+ sisters. This is the group of girls you feel embody your values and give you a home away from home. These sisters pick you up whenever you fall and you have fun every time you hang out with them. But within your sisterhood, there's another smaller group of girls that aren't just your sisters, but your family.
Your family is your big, your grand-big, your twin, your big's twin, and so forth and so on. It can expand pretty big (trust me, I know). But they all love you just the same.
If you aren't in a sorority, you may just think this is a clique within a clique or something. But from someone who is in a sorority and loves her sorority “fam” dearly, I can tell you it is so much more than that.
Your sorority family is so much more than matching t-shirts and cute family pictures. They are the backbone of your sorority experience. They are your extra support system. They are the people you can always trust to be there for you. They are the reason you don’t stress cry five times a day.
College can get pretty tough and insane at times. But your sorority family is there to cheer you up when you’re down. You laugh together, cry together and listen to each other rant about professors. Your family is always there for you no matter what.
Real families are based on love, trust and acceptance and so is this one. You confide in each other, look out for each other and so much more.
I know from personal experience that your family is one of the best things you can gain out of being in a sorority. These are the girls that don’t judge you when you watch "Harry Potter" for the third time that month and calm you down when you have a meltdown about classes. They are full of acceptance and are here to help you with your problems and console you when you're sad.
When you gain a sorority family, your family group message may blow up daily, but that’s because you all love talking to each other so much. You may favorite every tweet of theirs because you feel like you are the same person and you may spend just about 24/7 with some of them. But that’s what family is about, spending time with loved ones.
People always say, “You can’t choose family,” but this one you can. And that makes the experience even richer. This is the family you chose when you got your big and I can promise you now that they will be some your very best friends. Sorority families come together because they choose to be family. You find trust and love in these girls and those are some pretty important traits to have in sisters.
