I'm Single And I Love Valentine's Day

Who's to tell me I can't celebrate?

I'm Single And I Love Valentine's Day

So no, despite what my last article said (READ IT HERE), I am not in a relationship. At the moment. However, I still find many reasons to love Valentine's Day despite all my single ladies telling me it's best with a pint of B&J's, if ya know what I mean. Val's Day (cuz we're familiar) still finds away to make me happy, because it reminds me of so much more than the fact that I don't have a boyfriend. At the moment.

It reminds me of the people in my life who have always been, and always will be, my Valentine's. Like my parents, my sisters, my grandma, and the friends I hold dearest. No SO is going to ever replace the love I have for my family, and on Valentine's Day, I am more than happy to call them MINE.

Also, as my Valentine's love me very much, I can always expect a nice package with some chocolate, some Valentine's Day decor for my dorm, and a few extra goodies. (Such as my single, brown Doc Marten that I left at home somehow. Yup, just the right one.) It's nice to know that there are others thinking of me on this holiday, even if it's not a boyfriend. For the moment.

Also, speaking of the chocolate... the chocolate. There is no rule against single girls having all the Valentine chocolate we want. In fact, it is less frowned upon when we eat even more than the girls in relationships do! (Go figure.) Valentine's Day will always remind me of elementray school when we'd make little colored-paper envelopes, leave them on our desks, and walk around delivering Valentine's and candy to all of our classmates. I'd always come home loaded, and my sisters' loots would never compare. The trickiest part of the whole ordeal was deciding which of the Shrek Valentine's was more appropriate for the girls, which was the least flowery for the boys, and which was the largest so I could give it to my crush. We've all been there, c'mon.

Even, today, nice edible goodies somehow find themselves in extreme abundance on February 14th, and I ain't complaining. One of my friends even told me she's ordering cupcakes for herself! You go girl! No shame on Valentine's Day!

The holiday develops into a day of giving thanks for the great relationships I have, even if that list doesn't include a BF. At the moment. It becomes a day to call my parents and tell them how much I love them, to eat one too many Hershey's kisses with my friends, and to laugh about how next year, we'll have someone to kiss who isn't our dog. But for now, that doesn't really matter. At all. Really.

xoxo,

Yo Single Sista

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
