I'm a Millennial And No, I Did Not Vote

Yes, I am a millennial and no I did not vote.

I don't think it's a problem that I didn't vote. It seems like everyone is upset that a lot of millennials didn't vote this year. For most of us it is our first time that we can vote and the neither of the candidates looked appealing to us. We are new to the "political game" and we see what Facebook tells us or what other social medias show us. All we see on social media and TV is the candidates trash talking each other and I don't know if others feel this way, but I don't want to vote for someone who puts down others in order to make themselves look better. That trash talker is going to be in charge for the fate of my country for the next four years and I'm sorry but I do not want to vote for someone who does that.

I'm not a fan of either of the candidates but they are who America has chosen. Voting isn't mandatory so why pressure and pressure us to vote when we don't have to. America makes us millennials feel obligated to vote because "we are the game changers". If I don't want to vote I don't have to vote and I shouldn't be pressured into it.

People keep telling us non-voters that because we didn't vote we can't have a say or complain about who won. We have freedom of speech so we can say or complain about anything we feel like. Then again, the obnoxious amount of ranting on Facebook is ridiculous and understand people want to voice their opinions, but when it gets to a point that people are putting others down because of their opinions is just ridiculous. It's funny though because some of the other non-voters are saying that people who didn't vote shouldn't have a say but yet they are over here complaining and having a say. Elections bring out the most hypocritical behaviors of people and it is ridiculous.

In some cases I am almost afraid to vote. People are being beat up, verbally abused and physically harmed because of the person they believe should be the next president. I feel as if I voice my opinion as to who I would want to vote for I will get physically harmed for what I believe in or for. People are being physically harmed because of a simple checkbox they have filled out. I don't want to be apart of something that if your right of a choice offends other people to the point where they want to hurt you.

In the near future I will vote but just because at this time I, who am a Millennial, did not vote is a problem for people doesn't make me a horrible person. It is a choice to vote and in any choice you make, whether it is to not vote, vote for Hillary or to vote for Trump, I get crap for. My choice is my choice and I will vote when I feel as to if I want to vote for a legitimate candidate.

So yes, I am a millennial and no, I did not vote so get over it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
