I'm Living Vicariously Through YouTubers

I love seeing other people live their lives. Why does that make me self-conscious? Watching someone eat their meals, to go work, relax at home, etc. is creepy, right? Watching someone make their coffee, play with their pets, and respond to emails is strange, isn’t it? Probably. So why do we do it? What is it about other people, and their own mundane daily lives makes us want to watch?

Outside of YouTube, maybe “Vlogmas" isn’t a recognizable word. It’s the conjunction of “Vlog” (which is a word made up of “video” and “blog”) and “Christmas”, sometimes known as Vlogcember. Basically, YouTubers will film their daily lives every day of December, leading up to Christmas. I tried to find which YouTuber started the trend, and every article/forum I found credited Ingrid Nilsen (MissGlamorazzi on YT). Just because? Yep, just because.

There’s something about realizing that people you idolize are real people. It’s also just sort of inspiring to see how other people motivate themselves, and go about their day. Whatever it is- I’m attached. I love seeing other people live their lives. Maybe I’m living vicariously through other people in a way. I watch people from all over the country, and all over the world. I love seeing how people in other areas of the world, from all walks of life, just living. I’ll never be a man living in Spain, and I’ll never be a 16 year old girl living in Seattle. But I can see what they see, even for fifteen minutes out of their day.

Here are some of my favorite Vloggers taking part in Vlogmas. (Click their photo for a link to their channel!)

Aspyn & Parker

Aspyn Ovard is a 20 year old lifestyle YouTuber, sharing a separate vlog channel with her husband. They’re so cute and fun, and I’m living for their channel. If you want to see a couple of young business-people live day to day, casually traveling to places like India, Bora Bora, Europe and Hawaii, then subscribe these beautiful people.

Taylor Parks

I watch Taylor’s vlogs for vegan meal inspiration, and for pure entertainment. She’s so funny, and it’s like hanging out with a longtime friend when you watch her videos. Except for the fact that she doesn’t know that I exist is all.

Grace Helbig

My absolute favorite person on YouTube. She’s hilarious, but also sweet, really smart, and beautiful? Not really fair but whatever.

The Gabbie Show (The Gabbie Vlogs)

Gabbie’s on tour all of vlogmas, and that is so interesting to watch. She’s in a new city everyday, being hilarious. Boring (JK).

Colleen Vlogs

(AKA Colleen Ballinger, AKA PsychoSoprano, AKA Miranda Sings)

The life this woman leads is incredible. She has a series on Netflix, a world tour, millions of subscribers, and a really cute kitten. Watch her if you want to feel warm inside.

It’s not for everyone, I know of a few people in my life who find vlogging so strange- but I think you should check it out, at least for Vlogmas.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
