I'm Coming Home

It's that time of year again: the time to move back into my parents house for the next 3 months and get bombarded with a million questions.

It's that time of year again. Sophomore year is a wrap and i'm coming home. Every college student knows this feeling, but it's indescribable. You're so excited to be home and see your best friend or your dog, but a part of you doesn't want to leave. You're leaving your college friends and freedom to move back in with your parents for the next 3 months. I think I can speak for most college students when I say we do not want to be asked a million questions when we come home. To all parents, siblings, aunts and uncles take this into consideration before your college student comes home for the summer.

We've already been way too overwhelmed to think straight. We've had group projects, speeches and final exams. We have been living off of Dunkin Donuts all semester long, and we just want want to come home and relax. Yes, we know we have to find a summer job and clean our rooms, but give us a break. We chose to go to college to advance our education but we are tired college students so let us sleep after we've had a tough semester. Don't ask why were always sleeping. No, we aren't depressed, we are just simply exhausted.

When we finally get home let us lay on the couch before we unpack. Most of us just had to carry bins, microwaves, fridges and so much more to our cars and then drive hours back home. Our backs hurt. Let us rest.

When we finally unpack don't yell at us because we have too much stuff, because we know we do. I will complain and tell my parents that half of the stuff I packed I never used. but my mom will tell me that I should be prepared for everything. Apparently there is nothing that two sewing kits, sandwich bags, and a screwdriver can't fix.

I'm finally unpacked and relaxed a bit so please don't ask about my final project grades or how my GPA is going to look. I'm going to tell you "I don't know," and look down because I simply don't want to be asked that question. When I finally get all my grades in I'll let you know how my GPA is.

I will get a summer job i promise. I just got home an hour ago don't harass me about it now. Trust me, I want a summer job as much as mom and dad want me to have a summer job; I want it for the money and a little bit of freedom from mom and dad for a couple of hours.

My biggest pet peeve is when my parents ask where 'so and so' is. Dad, I haven't talked to them since high school i'm not going to randomly hit them up and see if they want to go to Leaf and Bean with me. Realize that my friends are going to come and go. If you don't see me hanging out with any friends from high school it's because I like my college ones better.

Giving me options for my first at-home meal but don't get mad when I ask to go to the most expensive restaurant with a wait time of an hour and a half. Do you realize I haven't had good food since Christmas break?!

Yes, I'm smiling at my phone. It may be a boy from school but it also might just be something stupid one of my best friends said. No, he is not my boyfriend.

College students everywhere are packing up their bags and headed home for summer. I think I can speak for all college students when I say it sucks. Packing up your dorm room and saying goodbye to your best friends is hard. Parents, siblings, aunts and uncles take this into consideration. We are going to be miserable. Try not to make it worse by asking us a million and one questions as soon as we walk in the door. Give us a couple days and the answers to all of your questions will naturally come into conversation.

Happy Summer Everyone :)

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
