I'm A Christian, But I'm Not...

All the things you think I am... I'm not.

I am not shy about my faith, especially not in the last six months or so after God has helped me through one of the hardest times of my life. I seriously can't thank God enough for being so merciful and dedicated to my well being even when I disobey Him.

But lately, I have been thinking about all the misconceptions of all religions. For example, some people assume all Muslims are terrorist, which is 100% not true. It got me thinking, what are people assuming about me?

I am a Christian, but I am not judgmental...

I feel this is one of the most commonly assumed things because Christians have a book, The Bible, to use as a guideline for life and living. So, other people assume that I will see they are not living by this set of "rules" and judge them for being "less than."

I have good news, I can promise you that I mess up those "rules" on the daily. I have lied before. I have let a few bad words slip my mouth. Of course, I mess up too. So, how can I judge you when I am making mistakes too? We are all learning.

I am a Christian, but I do not hate anyone in the LGBT+ community...

The Westboro Baptist Church has ruined this for us all. I will not refer to anyone in the LGBT+ community as any slanderous terms, or put you down for the life you live or who you love.

I firmly, and passionately, believe that it is not my job to point and finger at you and tell you not to be gay, bisexual, pan, etc. It is not my job to judge you, but it is my job to love you so much that you want to love God too. However he works in your heart is between you and God.

I am a Christian, but I am not a goody-two-shoes...

Don't assume I follow every rule to the exact word and I never, ever disobey authority. I have definitely done things I shouldn't have been doing (and I knew it at the time). It's human to follow your temptations and I have followed mine a few times.

I am a Christian, but I do not like politics...

I would be more than glad to have a conversation about politics with anyone, but it is not my agenda to suffocate the world until they see my view in the government.

Personally, I feel it is not my place to force people to live a certain way or make them accept the things I do. I choose to live the way I do and you have a choice too.

I am a Christian, but I do believe there should be safe places for abortion...

I know you have already figured out that I am pro-life. I won't go on a rant about how a baby's life matters, but it does to me. On the other hand, I want women to be safe. A time in our culture, coat hanger abortions were common.

Think about that, coat hangers. I don't want that to happen again to any women. Although I don't support abortions, I support safety.

I am a Christian, but I love science...

I think science makes God seem so much cooler. For example, something as small as trees giving us oxygen, or how the death of one animal impacts the livelihood of dozens is incredible. It shows the detail God was willing to put into His world.

I am a Christian, but my faith is not a denomination...

When I was younger, I used to identify as a Baptist Christian, but honestly, I didn't know what it meant. I just knew that my home church was Baptist, so I was too. Now, as I have gotten older, I just say I am Christian.

I don't want to label it. I don't want to stick it in some box so people can better understand my faith. It is as simple as this, I am a Christian and my faith is in God. He gave us The Bible, not to set strict, horrible rules for us to follow, but to show us how we can live a life in God's will.

I am a Christian, but not all my friends are...

I find it so, so important to surround myself with Christian friends as well because I need that sense of community with my faith, but not all of my friends are. That's perfectly okay. Jesus didn't restrict himself to only talking to people who believed in him.

I learn so much from the friends who don't believe in God and I hope they are learning from me too. I still love them the same and I don't put them down for not believing the way I do.

I am a Christian, but I will not tell you this post is the same for everyone...

The last thing I can leave you off with is that this post will not apply to every Christian. These are specifically my views and my life morals, but they differ.

Some Christians believe that you should involve yourself in politics as a believer. Some Christians don't want facilities in place to help women have safe abortions. Some Christians are rude and horrible to the LGBT+ community.

But that doesn't mean we are all that way.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
