A lot of focus is put around being an introvert or an extrovert, which seems to be normal. Until you can’t choose whether you are introverted or extroverted. For me, the best decision was that I had to consider myself both introverted and extroverted -- and introverted extrovert, if you will.
Often, I find myself loving the time I have with others and all the stimulation of classes, work and Greek Life, but I also find myself longing for some alone time. I enjoy being social and having friends over, but at the end of the day, I need more time for me than just the time it takes to complete my bed time routine. About a year ago, a friend of mine suggested the idea for a ‘me day’. So, I was very interested. I always try to have a Me Day planned to ensure that the things I need to help me stay balanced are available.
Sometimes, after making plans, it is hard to keep these plans because while I was feeling social and extroverted at the time, the days seem to bring different things. After feeling obligated to keep these plans, I realized that it is okay to take a rain check because the friends that I have interest in keeping around, will understand. Taking the time for myself or the Me Days are a perfect amount of time to take time for myself and also to stay grounded in the introverted tendencies I may have.
So, if you’re like me, and you prefer to be an introverted extrovert, go for it. Shamelessly cater to yourself because that too, is okay. Self-care is something we all should focus on and even if we don’t have the time, catering to the way we truly feel is the best way to make small yet impressionable changes in your everyday life. Lastly, take the Me Day for yourself and don’t be ashamed if you too are an introverted extrovert.
