It happens eventually, you all find each other. Somehow, in this crazy overwhelming school, you come together and within what seems like minutes, you can't picture life any other way. The beginning is always and awkward and strange process. How does one make friends? The last time the majority of people had to make friends was high school. Or in my case, fifth grade. The most important part is not to compare these new people to the ones you left behind in August.
There's a certain type of person in every group. The social butterfly: who you can never keep track of when you're out because they are always finding someone new to talk to. The sensible one: who is always ready to stop you when you're about to cross the line from "hoping for the best" to "acting irrationally." The spunky one: when they walk in the room, everyone anticipates the crazy thing she is about to do. The sunshine: she carries around this level of joy with her that a person normally doesn't have, but it makes you want to be a better person. And the best kind: THE one. No matter what, they are right there, always ready for a hug or an adventure depending on your mood.
Whether you have friends with all of these qualities or some of them, consider yourself lucky. I know I do. These people each bring something different to the table, something great that makes me want to be more like them in their quirky ways. I've found my home within each one.
I will always be thankful for how blessed I was since coming to college. I was blessed with a best friend who has many times had her night cut short due to my tears. She'd make my bed when I had a bad day, so I could come home and feel better. On top of that, I have at least fifteen more girls to depend on.
There is nothing but love between us all. No bad blood, no fights. I met the most genuine and caring people to ever exist.
I never have to worry about getting judged or thought less of because of what I do. They are constantly encouraging me to always "go for it," and when it doesn't turn out the way I want, they are right beside me. I never thought that undying support was real outside of parents but it's just as real with them. I wake up to them bursting into my room to play and I fall asleep with everyone sprawled around my room with a movie on. Whether I like it or not, we are a package deal. A huge package, but still inseparable.
Coming to college over a year ago, I never pictured my life to be like this now. I never knew I could be this happy. A huge shout out to my friends, thank you for coming to my room in the morning with bagels when I need it most, laughing at my finstas, and telling me when my clothes don't match. Life is much better when y'all are in it.
