Growing up, there was only one person that I really listened to, and that was Taylor Swift. Surprisingly it was my older brother who introduced me to the artist, given his high school baseball team would listen to her music on the bus to the games and his coach would dance as a joke. I can not believe that was almost eight years ago. Eight years as a Taylor Swift fan brought along her Speak Now CD, then Red and 1989, and much in between. Eight years as a Taylor Swift fan brought along expensive tickets to her concerts, witnessing the Kanye West diss, and being there in support every time she did something good. Being a fan of Taylor Swift has given me a lot of memories that I am so thankful for.

I had the opportunity to meet Taylor Swift through my mother’s friend, who worked as a radio host on a popular station. Taylor was stopping by the station to give an interview and talk about her album, Speak Now. I watched, without trying to freak out, as she talked and answered questions so cheerfully, so normal. When she first had walked in, she commented on my T-shirt, which was merchandise purchased along with her CD. She was so kind and took the time to talk to me and the other girls who got to meet her, as well.

Recounting the day I met Taylor Swift always brings a smile to my face. She had made me feel so special to be her fan and I was in awe about how sweet she was. She took the time to sign autographs for us, and to this day, above my bed, reads To Kate, I Love you! Taylor Swift. That is something that I will bring along with me no matter where I move to.

Taylor Swift is the type of celebrity that Hollywood needs more of. She does not create drama and there’s no pictures of her surfacing the internet of her drinking and partying too hard. Taylor Swift does not put her nose in political issues and tell her fans who to vote for, like most of Hollywood does. Taylor Swift understands that she is a role model and takes that job very seriously.

I am very thankful to have met my idol. A lot of people wish they would have that opportunity, and I hope that they do, one day. Meeting Taylor Swift was a highlight of my life that I will always cherish, love, and remember.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
