Cheesy love for a show ahead, be prepared.
If you have never watched this show, watch it. I promise I won't give away (too many) spoilers.
One Tree Hill is an amazing show. It is a whole nine seasons long, which gives you plenty of time to get attached to the characters, just like I did. For those that don't know, it's the story of two half brothers that grow up hating each other, but eventually come together because they share a common enemy; their father. The show follows their lives and the lives of the people closest to them as they go through high school, college, and the years that follow. The show follows them through happy times and some of their worst times, and is filled with love, passion, energy, hope, and friendship.
My favorite character is Nathan Scott. In the beginning of the show he is a rude, self-centered jerk that only cares about one thing: basketball. He does not care about anyone and only wishes to please his dad, yet as he grows up, he learns that eventually the sport will be all that he has left, and even that he won't be able to have forever. He changes into a good man. He becomes the kind of guy everyone wants to be, and the kind of father any man hopes to be. He overcame so many obstacles and still found a way to chase after a dream he had his whole life, with his family supporting him every step of the way.
His son Jamie, is wise beyond his years. He reminds Nathan, his mom, Haley, and all of their friends how to be a good person each and every day, and is easily someone that his younger sister, Lydia will look up to as she grows up. He cares about all of his friends, and is athletic and smart. Despite all the bad things he has had to face, he finds a way to see past all the bad and look deep inside people to find the good inside of them, a lesson that everyone should learn.
Aside from the well-developed characters, One Tree Hill also provides excellent life lessons and perspectives that we all need. It shows us the importance of friendship and what it takes to be a true friend. It gives us hope, not only for the future, but for today and for the now. It shows us that no matter the past, the now is all that matters, and forgiveness is key to moving on because people can change, and they will, whether it's intentional or not. But most importantly, One Tree Hill taught me about love and loss, and that you never know how much someone is struggling just by the face they put on to the outside. Everyone has their own problems, and sometimes all we need to do is smile.
So, I'd like to thank One Tree Hill for taking two years of my life. The lessons and characters you showed have forever been ingrained into my memory.
