"I'm Muslim, I must be a terrorist."
"I'm a blonde, I must be stupid."
"I'm a redhead, so I have no soul."
"I'm skinny, so I must be anorexic."
"I'm overweight, so I must be obese."
"I'm a black woman, so I must have an attitude problem."
All of these are examples of how society labels people and there's plenty more where they come from. Labels are almost like stereotypes; they define a certain group of people based on how society views them. In most cases, a person who has been labeled finds it very offensive and hurtful. This labeling business is a very serious issue and should be stopped. It's time to start labeling people for their positive qualities.
"She's a straight A student, so she is a very determined person."
"He's letting out his inner child because he just wants to have fun."
"She's busty, but she's not sexual. She's beautiful the way she is."
"He's good at math and science because he is passionate about them."
These are examples of how we can label people positively. Positive labels are a great way of viewing certain groups of people as more than what society views them. I know for a fact that not all blondes are stupid, redheads DO have souls, and not all Muslims are terrorists.
If someone wants to label me, they can go right ahead. I know who I am, so what other people think of me is irrelevant. I may be short, but that doesn't mean I should talk loud. I may wear glasses, but that doesn't mean I'm a geek. I know that I am the way I am for a reason, so if someone wants to label me, they should do it right. that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
