If You Weren't In "Lover" With Taylor Swift Before, These 6 New Songs From Her New Album Will Change Your Mind

On August 23rd, Christmas came early. Santa's real name is Taylor Swift and she not only gifted us with a new album called "Lover" but she gave us a whole new era to live in. The marketing and color scheme of this era isn't only genius but quite entrancing. With each new single released, I was worried I wouldn't love the album itself but when the song, "Lover", came out I knew this album and I would be best friends. Not only did I download it within the first seconds of it being released but I already have all the lyrics looping in my head… here are my top six favorite songs from the album and the ones you need to listen to asap.

Afterglow

This is the first one that really caught my attention. I am a sucker for good beats and rhythm, so when a song has it, it literally gives me chills. I also love the meaning behind it because it is relatable. It's basically Taylor saying, "I overreacted and I know that and it's not your fault." I truly love that because (1) usually in Taylor's songs, it is the other way around and (2) I relate to this so hard. I think back on past relationships where I am like, "I know I have grown up since then because in whatever situation that happened, I can take the blame and I know it was my fault.'' Don't get too crazy and go down memory lane and blame everything on yourself, I just loved the different grown-up perspective she used her song to sing about.

I Forgot That You Existed

YES, THE ULTIMATE I AM OVER YOU JAM. Where was this when I was still in college dealing with petty drama?! My favorite thing of the song is that it is half-spoken and half sung. It gives me "We are never getting back together" vibes for sure and I'm here for it. This will probably be the main instagram caption and relatable tweet for the rest of 2019. Taylor is basically saying that she used to be upset but now she's over it, but no one is mad at anyone.

You Need to Calm Down

I wrote a whole blog about this song (click here) and I just want to talk again about how important it is! An anti-hate jingle our generation needs. Even as a Christian, I am fed up with the way people treat people they don't agree with because that's not the right way of living or the happiest. Taylor is telling you to subtly shut up and she's doing it in style. I love how grown up she comes across in this new album. She's finding a way to speak her mind in truth without cuss words, hate bashing, etc. America needs more of that.

Lover

This song might be played at every wedding ever for the next year, but I just love it because you can tell how happy Taylor is with our boy Joe. I feel like I grew up with Taylor even though she is older than me. I have seen her at her best and worst. I cried with her during songs, prayed for her mom during cancer, and have attended just about every concert for each album. This song inspired me to find a relationship like this and not to settle for anything less. You go Tay!!

Soon You'll Get Better

I couldn't breathe during this song. It means a lot how Taylor is letting us in on something so personal and deep. I couldn't imagine singing this song, or any song, about this subject and letting millions of fans in on my pain. The lyric that gets to me is the part where she sings, "I don't mean to make this about me, but what would I do if there was no you?" There was more to the lyrics, but when I first heard that tears were shed for sure. We need more vulnerability in this life and Taylor is a great example of that. Thank you, Taylor, for letting us be apart of your family's journey as well as your's.

Cruel Summer

ON. REPEAT. SO. RELATABLE. I know what it is like to chase after something unachievable and probably not good for me so this is my anthem. I love the chorus, the verses, and the bridge. I love it all! You know those songs that just bring happiness to you because the background is so beautifully written? It's like pleasing to my ears? That's this song for me! It is all about falling for someone during a surreal time of life knowing it will never work but still chasing after it. It is truly cruel.

To be honest, every song is a true banger, but these were the five that have been on repeat. Have I already ordered five things of merch and a shirt from her Stella McCartney collection? Absolutely! Will I be buying multiple concert tickets for her upcoming tour? Duh! Once a swiftie always a swiftie and this album was a hit that made me nostalgic of a decade I wasn't even born in, made me miss Taylors first albums, but gave me a whole new side of her that makes me "lover" even more (get it?!).

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
