What would you do if you could not fail? Would you become famous? Would you ask out that one person you can't stop thinking about? Maybe you would ask for something as simple as acceptance. There's no doubt that something in particular pops into your mind. The possibilities are endless and that's the beauty of it.
I walked down the hall of the dorm I live in to see a huge, purple bulletin board that read, "What would you attempt if you knew you could not fail?" Underneath it was a sea of different responses: end world hunger, sing in front of an audience, be myself, become a surgeon, ask a boy out on a date. The thing about people is that naturally, we fear failure. We want to get it perfect the first time. But we all know from experience that's not the way it works.
I'm living in a building full of people that want to come out to their families and people that are scared to pursue certain dreams. The problem is we succumb to self underestimation. We are our own critics (and pretty good ones too). The truth is, we are a lot more capable than we think we are. Why are people so afraid? We should strive for ambition and adventure.
What would I do If I couldn't fail? A hundred thoughts rise to the surface of my mind. I guess I would want to be able to talk in front of a crowd. I would want to be that person confident enough to jump in the middle of a dance circle. I would want to travel the entire world, while at the same time rescue all of the puppies out there. I guess you could say I like thought provoking questions... and dogs. The point is that everyone has their demons, including me. Sometimes we don't realize the only one holding us back is well, us. Failure is scary, that's a given but it's also an experience. Failure and success coexist with one another. Getting things wrong is a part of life. Be more open to new experiences. Yes, you could think, "What if I fail?" But what if you thought, "What if I succeed?"
