"Empire" recently aired the season finale, and boy did it leave viewers with a lot of questions on what will happen next season!
So, what is the next big series to watch while you wait for "Empire" to come back on the air? Well, the ever so talented director, Lee Daniels, added another project to his growing list. Daniels has movies such as the highly successful "The Butler" and "Precious" and shows like "Empire."
A new TV series called "Star" is set to air on FOX. Daniels will serve as a writer and executive producer for this project.
Set in Atlanta, the show is filled with family drama, a shady record executive, and the hardships of making it into the music industry. "Star" follows three girls named Star, Alexandra, and Simone who want to make it into the industry. They also want to become the biggest music artists. They each have their different backgrounds.
Star, who is one tough girl, wanted to pursue her dreams of being a singer after her mother passed away.
Alexandra, a wealthy girl from New York, doesn't want her riches to define her, and just wants to make music.
Then we have Simone who lives in an abusive foster home and wants to be set free.
Eventually, the girls form a girl group and they go through a whirlwind of tribulations. The show has a lot of star power to it such as Queen Latifah, who plays a woman named Carlotta. By the looks of it, Carlotta is almost like a foster mother to the characters Star and Simone, who are sisters. The trailer emulates Queen Latifah's character as being the watchful eye over the girls throughout the process. We also have Lenny Kravitz who plays an over the top and gaudy music scout.
Of course, with a series centered around the music industry, the show will also have original songs.
Looking at the TV show's recently released trailer, it reminds me of a modern day, 2006 movie "Dreamgirls," which starred Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce, and Anika Noni Rose, who played Effie, Deena, and Lorrell respectively. The movie followed the trio of girls trying to chase their dreams and make it to the top of the charts. They formed a girl group and with the fame came all struggles they had to deal with from being in the music industry.
Hopefully, the show gets picked up by FOX. It is speculated that Lee Daniels left his director gig in the movie, "Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?" in order to focus on the project. It will certainly be interesting to watch the new show and see if Daniels made a good decision.
"Star" will definitely be a TV show to watch out for.
