Thanksgiving is the time of year that we take a break from school, work, and the stresses of life to be around family and friends and appreciate what we have. For college students, this is awesome because it means you get to take a break from school and be home for a week! Just like different majors in college all have reputations, so do different types of food that you see at Thanksgiving.

Turkey = Business majors

The turkey is the most classic part of the Thanksgiving meal on tables all across America; just as Business majors are the most classic major across college campuses everywhere. Business majors have so many skills that can be applied in so many fields, just as the turkey can be eaten very many different ways. Just as a business majors’ communication, accounting, or marketing skills can be used in almost any field, a turkey can be eaten as dark or light meat, leftovers, a sandwich, etc.

Dark meat = Journalism majors

Dark meat is probably the most controversial topic when it comes to Thanksgiving. It seems that everyone has a very strong opinion about it- you either love it or hate it. Journalism is a tough field in today’s political & social climate. Everyone seems to hate on the media in one way or another… just like dark meat!

Cranberry sauce = Art majors

Probably one of the most messy foods at Thanksgiving is the cranberry sauce! Even if you don’t like it, it can make any food look prettier, just as an art major can make just about ordinary thing look pretty. Just as cranberry sauce isn’t always the most popular, it needs some attention from time to time, too.

Rolls = Hospitality management majors

I think me and all of those other carb lovers out there can all agree on this- rolls will always be the best part of Thanksgiving. They’ll always be there for you- as a post-dinner snack, dessert, a post-black Friday shopping trip snack, or a leftover. Very similarly to how a hospitality management major will be there in their career to make sure their customers are always happy and having a good time! Rolls (or hospitality management majors) will always be there at the end of the day making sure you’re taken care of.

Mashed potatoes = History majors

Mashed potatoes & Thanksgiving- a pairing that is truly as old as time. Mashed potatoes have probably been around at Thanksgiving since the first Thanksgiving, just like History has been around forever! Mashed potatoes can be boring from time to time if they aren’t seasoned, just as specific parts of history may be boring. But, with a little spices, mashed potatoes can be so flavorful and interesting (just like history).

Mac & Cheese = Psychology majors

Just as a therapist is there to listen to all of your problems and things you want to talk about, so is any heavenly mac & cheese. It’s good at any hour of the day, and makes a pretty bomb leftover.

Green Bean Casserole = Pre-Med/Science majors

The initial look of green bean casserole can sometimes be unappetizing and kind of gross, just as the initial look of the medical or any science field. But once you dive in, it’s pretty good! Once majors of the science & medical field dive in, they love it and how complex it is.

Pumpkin pie = Education majors

Education majors are all just as sweet as pumpkin pie! They usually have a heart for helping others, especially children. Who doesn’t like pumpkin pie?! Who doesn’t like education majors?!

I hope you’re hungry now! Happy Thanksgiving!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
