If I Became A Talk Show Host

As I was growing up, I went through a phase of wanting to do many different things when I grew up. One was an actor, another was a singer, a veterinarian, even a professional wrestler. One career path that I was really interested in pursuing - and actually still is - is a talk show host. Being that I am currently studying communications and mass media, becoming a talk show host or at least a news anchor/Television Journalist, seemed like the most logical thing to do. As I started to think more and more about the talk show host realm, I came up with things I would do if I actually did become a talk show host.

  1. When it came to interviewing my guests, especially high profile individuals, I would ask a mixture of hard-hitting, personal questions, as well as light-hearted and fun questions. This is where I would use my skills as a Journalist to ask the tough questions that my audience and the public in general would want to know the answers to. But at the same time, I would not want to make my guests uncomfortable enough that they wouldn’t want to come back. I mean, I can’t really have a talk show if I never had anyone to talk to. I need friends...okay that got sad real quick. But I do have friends, trust me. Anyway, onto number 2.
  2. I would have a musical performance every day. So if you knew me, you would know that music is my life. I grew up singing and as I mentioned earlier, it was something that I originally wanted to pursue as a career. Don’t ask me about the time I auditioned for "X-Factor" ... Oops. Anyway, I would try my hardest to have a different musical performance every single day. I always wondered why talk shows don’t have an artist to perform every day. My assumption is that it costs the show a lot of money to have someone come on to sing even once a week. If that’s the case, I’ll have to think of something to get the job done.
  3. I would have a different up and coming comedian perform their stand-up routine once a week. Another thing about me is that I love to laugh. I think I have like a disease or something because I can laugh at literally almost anything. It can be the corniest joke in existence, and I would still laugh like it was the funniest thing in the world. I need help, I know. Don’t remind me. But anyway, I would use my show as a platform to help catapult the careers of stand-up comedians who are trying to get their foot in the door. From time to time, I would also bring on some of my favorite, well-known comedians as well.
  4. I would make time for the struggling, every day person. Whether you are a hard-working individual who gives back to their community every day, but finding it hard to pay for your college tuition, or you are a struggling army spouse missing your loved one while they are serving our country, or you have a life-altering illness but aren’t letting it slow you down in any way, I would feature you on my show, no questions asked. Your story would deserve to be heard and I will let you raise your voice on my show.
So there you have it folks. Now, I know what you’re thinking: this list sounds all too familiar. Like you’ve seen a lot of these things before. And maybe you have. But it is only because I love her and she is an inspiration and if I were even half as funny as she is, I would, no doubt, be as successful as she has been. So...thank you Ellen DeGeneres!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
