Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence are undeniably my two favorite celebrities. The reasons vary from the fact that neither is afraid to be themselves to the ridiculous amount of times each has cracked me up. One of the top traits I look for in a friend, or boyfriend, is a good sense of humor, and both of these ladies have that down.
It's quite refreshing when anyone, let alone celebrities, can easily make fun of themselves, and both Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence aren't afraid to do just that. Jennifer Lawrence on twerking: “I’m a horrible dancer! I’m like a dad at prom. I look like Gumby getting electrocuted.” It's the small truths like that that help fans resonate with these entertainers and love them even more than we already do.
Another thing I love about Jennifer Lawrence is how down to earth she is. She fangirls with the rest of us, trips during the most inconvenient times, frequently talks about her love for food, and she just doesn't hold back; she says what's on her mind, and it's hilarious. She is the kind of celebrity that we can all realistically aim to be like. She doesn't put on a face, and I think that's an admirable trait for anyone to have. She is going to be who she is, whether she's meeting Jeff Bridges or just opening a tin of mints.
I've watched dozens of interviews with Amy Schumer, and in each one of them she leaves both the audience and the interviewer in shock and hysterics. A few months ago when she was on Ellen, she was telling a story about Diana Agron, aka Qinn Fabray, and mentioned that "if [her] name were 'Quinn' on a show, they'd be like, 'Oh, the jolly Irish groundskeeper...'"
There are a lot of funny things in the world and plenty of material for jokes, but a lot of what Amy chooses to tell jokes about are herself and her life happenings, things that other people are too afraid to joke about or even talk about, and that's what makes her hilarious. Writer Kim Quindlen described her perfectly when she wrote, "She maintains a perfect balance of being vulnerable and fearless, poignant and silly, honest and unapologetic." I think Amy has a good balance of confidence and vulnerability; she'll take some stabs at herself, but she won't take any from anyone else.
Amy Schumer is fearless; she's not afraid to tell it like it is. She's covered every tabooed topic we have in America like it were part of a casual conversation at Sunday brunch, and I admire her for being the bad ass that she is.
The way these ladies carry themselves, and the way they joke around, isn't going to make them any less talented or any less respected in their industries. Neither of them pretends to be someone they're not, and I'm sure plenty of other people in Hollywood are the same, but these two stick out to me simply because they're fun and hilarious. Both have bright futures, and I'm expecting to see a lot from them soon.
