Our Identities In Christ Jesus

This past weekend, I took a much needed retreat to Lake Martin (which is in Alabama) with my church. I learned so many different things and grew closer to God. One thing I learned was that I have an identity in Christ. Sure, I knew this, but I never really thought about it. I feel that many people don’t really think about it either, but it is truly something we should all learn and think about.

So on this retreat, we went around to different stations on our last day and had to complete the activity listed there. One station included a sheet of paper that stated My Identity in Jesus. You were told to take a sheet and read through the different identities to choose the top five that you felt you related with the most. Each identity had a verse that went with it. At first, I was not really sure how I was to figure out which identities that I felt spoke to me the most. What if I liked them all or didn’t feel much excitement about any of them? I prayed that God would show me who I needed to be in Him. The hardest part of this activity was trying not to cry because I found who I needed to be in God. Yes, I picked five. I learned through this that I am a child of God, I am Delighted in, I am a Masterpiece, I am Bold and I am Holding a Secured future. This is now what I want to strive to remember every single day about myself.

Now that I have talked about myself, I want to help all of you try and find your identities in Christ Jesus. There are so many different ones, and technically we can be defined by all of them when we become true followers of Jesus. God wants us to know that even when we feel like we have no identity or we don’t know who we are, we can remember that in Him we have an identity. We are His! So, my challenge to all of you is to look at this list of identities below, pray that God will show you which ones He wants you to remember to be, and then pick five that speak to you and live by those every day!

P.S.: This is the link to the list of identities!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
