My Ideal Weekend Schedule

This is what my ideal weekend looks like.

Everyone looks forward to the weekend. After five dreadful days of school, its nice to have some time to lay back and relax for a couple of days. I'd hate a world without a small break in between each week.

Although weekends are great, I have some problems with them that I wish wasn't the case. Firstly, time passes by much quicker than just a regular business day. In addition to that, you only have two days to restart your brain. That is why we need to tactically plan a weekend worth working five days for. Here is my idea of the perfect weekend.

Let's say school ends at 3 O'clock in the afternoon on Friday. I need to get school off my mind. Instinctively, I would take a nap. After about 2 to 3 hours, I would make myself something delicious to eat, such as chicken alfredo pasta. For the rest of the night, I would spend some time with friends and family watching movie. Friday night movies are tradition to me; I can't start the weekend without a good movie before bed.

Now it's Saturday, ten O'clock in the morning. I wake up, and make myself some homemade waffles with thick maple syrup. After a nice warm shower, I would sit in my home office and take care of any weekend responsibilities, such as homework. Its best to get this done early, so that it doesn't become a last minute panic attack on Sunday night. At around two O'clock in the afternoon, I would start up the grill and make lunch. With the company of friends and family, serving barbecue is a no-brainer. The rest of the day is then spent at a local public location. For example, a beach, park, museum, cinema, etc. While out, we would have dinner at a local pizza place; there is never a bad time for pizza.

Fast forward to Sunday morning. After waking up at around nine O'clock in the morning, I would dress nicely and go to church. For lunch, my mother would cook a family meal, enough to feed an entire football team; there is nothing better than mother's cooking. After lunch, I need some time to digest all the food I just ate, so I lay on the couch and watch a movie (I like movies.) At this point, I most likely have fallen asleep on the couch, so I'd hope to wake up before the day is almost over. For the last couple of hours of my beloved weekend, I usually like to call my family in Portugal and ask what they are up to. That usually takes until dinner time, which would be a nice classic Portuguese dish. After that, I make sure to sleep early enough so that I could start off the following week strong.

There it is, my ultimate weekend. To most it may seem boring, but I wish every weekend turned out like this one. Nonetheless, weekends, no matter how different they may turn out to be, are still the best thing to exist. Enjoy your weekend!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
