I Am A Christian
Amelia Thomas

Some people will be confused by this article. Others will agree with it. Others will be very angry with me. Some may block or delete me. And some might just flat out call me stupid. Here’s the deal, I waited weeks after the shooting in Orlando, Dallas, Baton Rouge, the shooting of Alton Sterling, and countless other horrible acts that went on in the United States for a reason. I wanted people to have time to heal and to move on from these tragedies, so that they read this with an open mind. As you read this article I want you to forget the color of your skin, your sexuality, whether you are pro-choice or pro-life, and your political beliefs. All I will share about me at this time is that I am a Christian… you can judge me now or read my article and realize that I am not your stereotypical “I am better than you Christian.” My advice is… read the article.

So maybe you’re living under a rock and missed the news, but our country is supposedly going “downhill.” First I’d like to point out you can not blame a political leader, a church, an occupation, a race, a sexuality, or a religion for this. The only person there is to blame is the Devil himself, and if you don’t believe that continue reading anyway. Now, at this point in time most Christians are saying that we are losing a battle, but the ones who have read the Bible will know that there is no battle going on because God won before Jesus even died on the cross or before Eve took a bite of that stupid apple or piece of fruit or whatever it was.

There is no battle for us to be fighting, honestly. Maybe you don’t support same-sex marriage, that’s OK – I don’t either but let me tell you this: I also don’t support any of the sins I have committed. Jesus died on the cross for me just like He died on the cross for the man who raped me last year, my lesbian friend, all the guys who chose another girl over me, the people who don’t eat ranch with their pizza, and everyone else on this planet. So while everyone is out judging everyone make sure you remember that there is only one Judge and He is a righteous and fair judge. He does not judge us based off of the sins we have committed, but whether we confess Him as Lord or not.

When that time comes it won’t be a matter if you are black or white, Republican or Democrat, or even pro-life or pro-choice. To all my brothers and sisters in Christ you know this so why are you actually being stupid? (Remember I am saying this to myself as well because I am guilty too.) Why are we not loving the sinner and hating the sin? Remember John 8 when Jesus protected the adulterer “if any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” How many of us are actually good enough to judge other sinners... Let me answer that for you, none of us. Christians– we serve a good, good Father who sent His Son to die for everyone- including the people you disagree with. I just don’t understand why we as Christians are so blind to the fact that we are not any better than anyone else.

We are supposed to recognize our sin and go to the Lord so He can heal us, not ignore our sins or give into them. Don’t you think that anger and hatred is sinning? How exactly does yelling at a Black Lives Matter supporter over Facebook increase the fruit on your branch?

There is sin in this world and there is nothing we can do about it. Anger does not make it go away. Making a human feel like less of a human definitely does not help. And acting like you are a victim does nothing. Yes, Christ said we would be persecuted, but He never said that we would lose a battle or that we did. We have no fight to fight. This whole “the world is going down-hill” crap was predicted thousands of years ago and guess what God already won that battle.

The second most important commandment is “love your neighbor as yourself” Mark 12:31. The only battle you should be fighting is trying to decide if you’re going to bring your Atheist neighbor cupcakes or cookies. No I am not condoning sin, but I am not going to sit and watch my fellow believers ruin our witness. We weren’t put on this earth to fight a battle that has already been won. We were put on this earth to advance the Kingdom of God. God’s commandment was “go and make disciples,” not “go and be a meanie.” Thankfully, I serve a God who teaches reconciliation. Now, what does that mean? The exact definition is “the restoration of friendly relations.” So maybe you didn’t start the argument with the pro-choicer, but you’re going to fix the problem. Take the time to message, call them, bake them a cake and tell them “I just wanted to apologize for my actions. I know that it is hard to forgive, but I was very wrong for arguing with you. I forgive you just as Christ forgave me and I hope that you are able to forgive as well. I may not agree with you, but there is no reason for me to be angry with you or for me to dislike you because we disagree.”

P.S. you’re welcome for the exact script.

Let’s just say, that I for one am very thankful for the world going “downhill” because all that means is I am one day, one second, one hour, one whatever closer to my Lord and Savior coming to carry me Home. So no, I don’t support gay marriage or pro-choice or murder or rape or the Black Lives Matter movement or really sin in general. I support loving other people even when their opinion differs from mine.

Now, I honestly do not care what anyone has to say about this article, but if you consider yourself a Christian you better start acting like it. You can not claim Christ and then act in a manor that does not reflect Christ. And no, I don’t care that you’re a pastor and you’re supposed to be teaching Christians if you are turning away the lost then you better turn yourself away. Also, if you are turning away a member of the LGBTQ community as a paying costumer and you claim Christ, get it together bro because that is not the way to tell them about Jesus. When you become a Christian that makes you one with Christ because that is the only way God can look at you and heal your brokenness. That is the only way He can pick you up when you fall and mend your wounds so that you can be healed. So yes, you will be dirty for the rest of your days on this planet, but God sees you as clean once you have been washed by the blood of the Lamb. God doesn’t see a political party or a worldly belief at that point all He sees a hurting child that He has been patiently waiting for their arrival. No He is not OK with your sin and sin is not good, but don’t act like trying to fix someone else’s sin is fixing your own. I am the biggest sinner of them all, but God still sent Jesus to die my death and He did not care about any of the things that I have done or will do, because He wanted me just as I am. He wanted me broken because I can’t fix myself, but He can. He wants you because you can’t fix yourself or the world around you, but He can. Christians, we aren’t victims and we never were so stop acting like everything is going wrong when you know that everything is going just how God planned it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
