“I’m Movin’ On”

“I’m moving on”- by far the easiest statement said rather than done. I like to blurt out the song by Rascal Flatts and feel better, but simply singing the song doesn’t count as actually doing it, right?

As the semester is beginning, you don’t want something bringing down your potentially great semester. There always comes a time to move on from someone or something that isn’t making you happy anymore. Sometimes it is hard to tell exactly when that point is in any relationship. Moving on can be one of the hardest things someone has to do throughout life; so I am here to guide you to the warning signs to ensure your semester is the best it can be!

Living in the past
Thinking about past relationships or relationships in general is always tough. But living a relationship in the past is not healthy. When you think of someone, you shouldn’t be re-living the memories you had together. Yes, reminiscing on these times is normal, but having these memories be the only things holding you to this person is not. This is one of the hardest concepts to grasp because when we think about happy times in the past, it makes us hopeful for the future. Maybe we didn’t get closure with someone and therefore just continue to think about the past, nevertheless no one wants to live in the past when there is so much to look forward to in the future. We don’t live in the past in other aspects of our life, so why should this be any different?

It is more work than reward

When you are putting in all the effort to communicate with this person, that’s a problem. Relationships, whether romantic or friendly, require two-sided communication. One person should not be the only one trying to talk and hang out. No one wants to feel unwanted from someone who they consider special. When the effort to keep in contact with someone is more than you are getting out if it, you know it is time to move on from him or her. Don’t you want to feel the mutual effort to keep the relationship going?

It no longer makes you smile

When you are thinking about this person or situation and it no longer makes you smile, that should be one of the biggest warning signs. No one should make you want to cry and be sad. You cannot change the past, so there is no point in being upset about it. Why would you want to be around someone who doesn’t make you happy anyways? Everything in life should make you happy and want to smile. After all, you never know who is falling in love with your smile.

If you read these warning signs and immediately related to any, consider moving on from that certain person or situation that is causing them. Trust me, I know it is always hard to move on from something that once made you on top of the world. However, there comes a time when it is what’s best for you! I just want to see you all succeed this semester and not to be dragged down by someone or something.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
