I Love You, Delta Zeta

Sisters bound by love instead of blood

I Love You, Delta Zeta

North Carolina State is a big school. Coming from a town in Connecticut with a population smaller than State, I was definitely nervous to say the least. Fortunately, I've found my people. I found Delta Zeta.

Sororities get a ton of flack. Constantly, we're berated for "buying our friends" or being "basic" girls that "party too much." What I have come to find is that I don't blame people on the outside for seeing us like that. We are bound by something they will never understand. But once you are on the inside you know it is nothing like that. Coming to State, I was leaving my family. First semester freshman year, I hated it here. I wanted to transfer and go home to be with my family. Now, I could not fathom transferring because I would be leaving my other family -- my sisters.

This is me taking the time to thank each and every one of you. Through Delta Zeta I have not only found the most amazing, beautiful and courageous women I could ever imagine, but also I have found myself. It is such a remarkable organization, and within it I have been lucky enough to find my best friends -- the girls that will be by my side at my wedding one day.

Y'all are the girls that have been there to see me at my worst, and on rare occasion -- also at my best. No matter what, I always know I can walk into the house and there will be someone to listen. So thanks for the endless group chats that make me feel #blessed when I wake up from a nap with 100 texts. Thanks for the late night cook out run, and for being too slow to screen shot my heinous Snapchats (or too nice, you choose). Thanks for the ridiculous breakfasts at Finch's on Saturday mornings and for always picking me up where ever I end up. Thanks for always letting me get my good side in pictures (except you, Luci), and thanks for hating the same people I hate and loving the occasional ones that I love -- and probably shouldn't.

Thanks for always having my back and for not telling me "I told you so" even though 99 percent of the time y'all are right.

No matter what, you guys are my people. You are the ones I can always turn to, and I am so lucky to be a part of DZ. ITF always -- better than you since 1902.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
