The first time I went hunting or fishing with my significant other, I felt out of my element. I was not only nervous about going hunting or fishing but nervous about going with someone who knew so much more about the two than me.
After my first time hunting with my S.O., I came up with these five rules that should help your hunting trip got a little more smoothly.
1 Be quiet
Remember you have to be quiet anytime someone goes hunting. Often, first-timers want to talk non-stop. In the eyes of a hunter, that's a big no-no.
2. Stop asking questions
The guide or leader of the trip doesn't want to be bothered by excessive questions. They want you to trust them and enjoy the trip they have planned for you. For example don't continuously ask, "How far are we walking?" or "How long will this take?"
3. Treat your host with respect
Never try to give your host suggestions or comments on how they are going about the hunt. The last thing a hunter wants is to be told he or she is doing something wrong by someone who has never been before.
4. You don't need to smell nice
For some reason, before most people go hunting for the first time, they want to shower and put on a strong fragrance deodorant or perfume. Deer and many other animals will smell the fragrance and run away. Most animals have a very heightened sense of smell.
5. Control your colors
You should not wear super bright or flashy clothing that can give away your hiding spot. You should always wear dark colors that blend into your surrounding such as green, black, and tan.
Well, there you have it. I hope these five rules will help your first hunting trip with your S.O. go smoothly.
