I hate to call myself biased, but I know I am. West Virginia has always been home to me, even when I didn't live in the state. Something about being in West Virginia makes people want to come back. I don't know what it is, but I think it is contagious. The scenery, the curvy roads, the smiles, and the food: all makes this state one to always come back to. I have been to so many states and none quite compare to the atmosphere of West Virginia. You never feel like an outsider, because everyone is family. You are never bored, because there is an adventure to be had. You never think you’re alone because someone is always there. People think you’re cliquish, but you know they just don’t understand the bond we West Virginians hold. Overall, West Virginia proves time and time again that it IS home. I hope no one has to question if this great state is where they belong.
1. You call it “West by God Virginia”
It's all in the name.
2. LET’S GOOOOO MOUNTAINEER’S and/or WE ARE…MARSHALL are engraved in your brain.
What can we say? We are proud of our boys.
3. The words “New River Gorge” will bring a tear to your eye, just based on beauty alone.
If you haven't been there, get there.
4. You find it a tiny bit amusing when your friends or family is visiting from another state and they get car sick from the roads.
5. If you haven’t been white water rafting, it’s on the bucket list.
6. You realize how happy people actually are in West Virginia the moment you leave the state.
Look how happy Matthew McConaughey is to be here. Can you blame him?
7. Football is an all-weekend event.
As I said before, we love our boys. Plus, if you don't watch football on the weekends, what do you talk about at work on Monday?
8. We Are…Marshall and October Sky are more than just movies.
They are more like part of our heritage.
9. Your mouth waters at the sound of:
Tudor’s Biscuit World
Slaw Dog
Biscuits and Gravy
10. You wonder how many inaccuracies there are in this conclusion.
11. You know ALL the words to "Take Me Home, Country Roads"
Screaming "WEST VIRGINIA, MOUNTAIN MAMA" on road trips because it is a powerful point in the song.
12. Y'all
We all know it's inevitably in our vocabulary.
