How Writing Has Changed My Life

It's more than just a hobby

Ever since I was little, I've always written things down. It didn't really matter what it was; whether it was a journal of my thoughts, or just random words to help me with my spelling and handwriting. I was always writing. I must've had hundreds of journals throughout the years, and as paper got less popular, I would "write" things down on a computer. I had so many different notes written just about random things. Sometimes I'd write stories, and sometimes I'd just write about what went on during my day. I've always had a passion for writing. This passion changed my life.

English class has always been my favorite, and I've always excelled in it. I understand the bits and pieces of writing that may be unclear to many other people. Some people have their strengths and their weaknesses when it comes to school, and English/Language Arts class was always my strength. I took as many English classes in High School as possible and then decided to make my major English because I really wanted to focus on that in life. Why has it changed my life though? What's so special about writing over everything else that I could fall in love with?

Writing inspires me. It takes me to a completely different place. I'm in a new world when I'm writing. I can't hear anything, other than my thoughts and my fingers on a keyboard, or my hand sliding against the paper as my pen glides across it as well. The only thing I can see are my words, and the images that they bring into my head. Writing helps me express my creativity. You can literally create anything with your writing. Artists have their pencils and their canvases, along with everything they need to create a beautiful piece of art; and writers have their pencils and "canvases", along with what they need to create their piece of art.

I've been one to struggle with social interactions, and making friends seems to be a little harder for me than other people I know, but I'm able to have a different voice while I'm writing. I'm able to be a different person; one who can say or do anything. Writing gives me a voice that not many other people may hear or understand. It's just the type of passion that no one will understand unless it's happening to them as well. People have passions, and I think that is very important. If you find something that changes your life and you are happy about it, go for it. I've always wanted to write a novel, and right now I am in the midst of doing that; whether it works out or not, it won't matter because I am still pursuing something that I am passionate about. If something ends up happening, then it ends up happening, but if not, I can still try again, and I still have the love for writing right by my side.

I've had people and experiences change my life, for better or for worse, but writing is different. Writing takes me away from the world and gives me a voice that I may never be able to have. Writing gives me a chance to express myself even more, and for that, I love it. You can write about anything and everything. You can create pictures in your mind and the mind of others. Writing will forever be with me. I know there are many people who have a love for the arts, or for sports, or for other parts of school, or just anything in the world; and I say to those people: never lose that passion. Never lose something that will take you to another place and make you feel even more at home than you could ever feel anywhere else. Never let go. Dream on and make it happen.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
