How We All Relate To The Characters From 'How I Met Your Mother'

We all watch tv shows and distinguish which character is the most relatable to ourselves. While watching "How I Met Your Mother," I find similar characteristics of myself in every character. This is why when you watch this show you feel so connected to the characters like you are actually part of the "gang."

Ted Mosby

We all have a little Ted Mosby in us, and by Ted Mosby I mean the drive to find 'the one.' If you are a fan of this series (and I'm assuming you are since you are reading this) you know that Ted Mosby is obsessed with the idea of finding the perfect women marrying her and starting a family. Because of this he jumps into relationships too quickly and ends up being hurt in the end. We all have been in a relationship with someone that we thought was going to be ‘the one,’ and we’ve been absolutely devastated when it wasn’t. Ted Mosby is there throughout the series never giving up on what he believes is out there. This is why we all should strive to have Ted’s motivation and faith in this particular area.

Robin Scherbatsky

Robin Scherbatsky, she is all of our spirit animal. For most of the series, she is portrayed as the badass friend who doesn’t care about her feelings or doesn’t really have feelings at all. She is blunt and will never have an issue telling anyone how it is. She is very much independent and does fine on her own. She also loves where she came from and will always stand up for her country of Canada. She is something we are or we wish to be.

Barney Stinson

Barney Stinson is a character you have to dig real deep to find similarities with. He is the womanizer in the group and has slept with well over 200 women. Barney is confident with himself and is always up for a challenge. He, however, proves to be a good friend to the gang by always helping them out. He offered both Ted and Marshall jobs at GNB and helped Robin make a video resume to help her find a job so she was not deported back to Canada. I feel that Barney is the friend who constantly gets put on the backburner. He is constantly suggesting that he is Ted’s best friend when in fact Marshall is Ted’s best friend. We all are a little bit full of ourselves sometimes, devoted to our specific group of friends, and feel a little left out from time to time and that is how we can all relate to the legendary Barney Stinson.

Lily Aldrin

My personal favorite character of the show is Lily Aldrin. She is the most down to Earth one out of the group and I feel like she is the most relatable. Her one dream is to become an artist but for most of the series she settles for being a kindergarten teacher. Even though it is not her dream she makes the best of her situation and loves her job as much as she can. She is the friend who can not keep a secret for anything and is always blabbing about someone’s dirty secret. We all have made the best of a situation that wasn’t ideal and we all have spilled the beans about someone else’s secret.

Marshall Eriksen

Marshall Eriksen, the nicest of the group. Marshall is described as being ‘too nice’ he refuses to see any bad in anybody. When he lived with Ted in the first couple seasons we learn that Marshall hardly wears pants and loves pizza. That right there explains why we can all relate to Marshall Eriksen.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
