So you've found yourself in a bit of a pickle... you invited a guy on your date function but suddenly you don't want to take him after realizing that he's either creepy, weird, clingy, or not attractive in the daylight. Here's a few ways to get yourself out of this potentially disastrous date without hurting his feelings.
1. Try to convince him that he is suddenly super busy.
Ask what he has going on before your date function and then make a big deal about any and every event he has going on. Exam two days after the function? He should really stay in and study for that, wouldn't want to be the reason he got a bad grade. His fraternity's philanthropy has an event the night before? He'll probably be really tired, he should really take it easy and rest up. His roommate has an exam the day after the function? He should be respectful and stay in so he doesn't make a bunch of noise coming in late from the date function while his roommate is studying.
2. Don't text back for really long periods of time.
Go off the radar for 24 hours, at least. Make him think you're missing in action. Then when it almost seems like you're ignoring him, text him back a really short, ambiguous message. Repeat the process all over again after he replies. This will drive him crazy until eventually it's his idea to uninvite you because he's so fed up with your cryptic ways.
3. Make it seem like the theme of the date function is crazy absurd.
Explain the theme with an unreasonable amount of detail, convince him it'll take hours of preparation for this date function. Send him on a wild goose chase for an outfit that you know he very well may not find. If by some miracle he actually finds a suitable outfit for the function, tell him apologetically that you made a mistake and it's actually an even crazier theme... oops. Keep him busy with this ridiculously intricate date function until he's sick of it and takes it upon himself to come up with a lame excuse of why he can't go.
4. Tell him about all of your life problems
Text him about everything-- and once you're finished texting, call him. Tell him what you had for lunch. Complain about the weird girl down the hall. Cry to him about your ex boyfriend. Tell him all about the lecture you got from your dad. Ask him if he thinks you're fat. Accuse him of lying when he says you aren't fat. When he's finally had enough of you and starts to ignore your texts and calls, tell him he's being insensitive. This should convince him that you're crazy and send him running for the hills, no date function for him.
5. Tell him your dad wants to meet him before your date function.
There are few things that teenage boys are more afraid of than meeting a girl's dad (bonus intimidation points for a dad with a killer mustache). The mere thought of having to introduce himself, shake hands with, and talk to your dad will make him quiver with fear. The fact that you're demanding that he meet your dad when you're nowhere near even dating the guy will raise a huge red flag and make him reevaluate his decision to accompany you on this date function. If he backs out then he won't have to meet your dad, that should be incentive enough.
