Traveling the world is a great eye opener and wonderful learning experience. Whether you're traveling for pleasure, work, or study, there's always something to learn. I'm not nearly finished with my travels, but I've learned so much already. Traveling can be intimidating and scary sometimes, but there's nothing too daunting. Each of these tips are things I've learned and they can be helpful to your travels.

1. Do NOT lose your passport!

Simply, you need your passport for everything. You need it to travel, to go to the doctor, even to buy certain things. Keep copies of your passport in your wallet, suitcase and carry-on bag. There are a ton of products out there strictly meant to keep your passport safe from pick-pocketing.

2. Give yourself plenty of time

You need loads of time at the airport. Airports always have some sort of hold up, so get there a few hours early as to not get stuck behind. You also need time to travel in country. Other countries have different transport, some of it is slow going, so you need time to get from one place to another. If you're studying abroad, give yourself time to have some fun and try new things.

3. Get into the culture

One of the greatest aspects of traveling, whether to study or for fun, is that the culture is important to soak in.

4. Dress appropriately

Wardrobe choice is important. Health wise, you should dress for where you are. You should dress to avoid sunburn and potentially dangerous bug bites. In addition, dress to fit into the the culture and society. By dressing to fit into the place you're traveling to, you won't attract unwanted attention.

5. Spend wisely

Traveling isn't cheap. Souvenirs and memorabilia are great and all, but money is better spent on memories. One of the biggest expenses is alcohol, it's not cheap, but it seems like a good idea. Consider staying in hostels instead of resorts and taking public transportation.

6. Research

Learn what it's like where you're traveling. Look into the weather at the time you'll be there, find out what their currency is and the exchange rate, even learn some (or all) of the language. Look into international phone plans if you plan on bringing a cell phone. Also, look into traveler's insurance, you never know what might happen.

7. Prepare for plane rides

Planes can be great. You can eat, sleep, read, watch movies, or listen to your favorite tunes. Bring a book/magazine, headphones, a water bottle, gum, neck pillow, and more if it's a long ride. For those long overnight trips, tooth brush, tooth paste, face wash, and lotion. Be sure to check the airport security for rules on packing liquids for your carry-on.

8. Pack light

Pack only what you need and what you'll actually wear. If you're moving around a lot in country, you'll need to be able to carry all your own luggage. You want to be able to manage your load.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
