This is going to be a small series of articles on how to write a good research paper from start to finish. This article will be establishing your thesis and getting a good idea on what you want to write about and the thought process behind getting ready for the actual essay. This will be a semi-long article, you have been warned.
When writing a research paper you first want to determine if you will be going the argumentative route or the analytical route, I suggest argumentative for the simple fact it will be more interesting and you can add more of your own experiences in your work. Next, you will want to establish a general idea of what you want to write about, so, for an example I chose to write about Common Core. This is a broad topic that we will either be pro-common core or negative common core. After this is set up you can then create your thesis statement.
Thesis Statement EX.: Common Core classes should be terminated because it causes unnecessary stress, a creative blockage, and long-term mental challenges that occur down the line.
A thesis statement is just your main topic with 2-5 claims to support it, and those claims will become the body of your essay later on.
Once you have a general idea of what kind of research paper you are writing and what it will be about then you have completed step One in writing a good research paper.
