If you know how to be a bear, then you definitely understand rainy days at Missouri State. Every time it sprinkles outside, the streets seem to become rivers. How do we seem to get through it when the rain feels never-ending? Im not sure, but we sure do survive. However, if you have not yet experienced the downpour or you are struggling a bit while swimming to class, I am here to tell you that there's a way!
1. Don't even bother with an umbrella...
The first (and last) time I used an umbrella, it did a flip and my umbrella was no more. I have seen this happen numerous times to fellow bears, and I am sure they learned their lesson too. When there's rain here, there's unbearable wind. Every. Single. Time. Long story short, you're better off leaving your umbrella at home.
2. The Bearline is your best friend
I have heard of the ones who don't bother downloading the MSU Mobile App, but there's literally a live map of bearlines and it shows you exactly where it could take you. Grab hold of this opportunity, it'll save you a bit. During rainy days, sprint your behind over to that bearline stop and learn the ways of getting to class a little more dry.
3. Invest in a rain poncho
Okay, I don't think i've ever seen someone on campus wearing a rain poncho... but if you have, go you! You rock that rain poncho! Seriously, it feels like you need to wear a giant trash bag in order to walk to class and get there without being completely soaked.
4. But for real... invest in a good quality rain jacket
Many of us FSL kids have our greek letter rain jackets, and those are a definite blessing to have. That is my absolute go to because it keeps at least my top half dry, as well as my phone in the front pocket. :)
Investing in an actual waterproof rain jacket is a must if you would like to keep part of you dry during the downpour.
5. Watch our for those bike paths
Shoutout to the ones who ride bikes around campus; it's a smart move. However, on a regular day, they will probably run you over if your on their path. Therefor, on a rainy day, they will definitely run over you even if they tried to stop. Like i mentioned before, campus turns into a river, so braking a moving bike is probably unlikely.
6. Rain boots!!!
This one is probably a no brainer. Who wants to have soaking wet feet while sitting in class? Not me! Rain boots are a must have here in bear country.
Now there's no doubt that you'll arrive to class rain free (unless you take my trash bag tip), so don't count on being completely dry. However, I hope I could assist some of you in getting less damp on your journey across campus!
