While we're just facing light rain right now, let's be real: We're from North Carolina and when a weather threat surfaces, we like to be prepared (remember all of our snow-pocalypses from last year and years prior).
Rain, rain, go away, but we'll be prepared for you anyway.
Here are five things you can do to prepare for the worst, in true North Carolinian fashion:
1. Charge your cell phones and computers.
In case of an electrical outage, your parents will probably be worrying theirs socks off if they can't get in touch with you. Make sure that your gadgets are charged so that you can ease their worries -- and keep yourself occupied with entertainment for a tad bit longer.
2. Stock up on water.
If the electricity really does go out, running water will not be accessible. Make sure you aren't thirsty by filling up all your water bottles or containers beforehand -- preparation at its finest.
3. Carry an umbrella and a poncho (if you don't have a raincoat) with you at all times.
Don't get stuck in the rain if you can help it! Nothing would stink worse than soaked-through clothes, but it could be avoided.
4. Finish your online homework.
Another power issue: If you lose power and your laptop dies, or you can't obtain Internet access, you'll lose study time and due dates will approach more quickly than you think. Do your homework ahead of time when you have both light and power.
5. Make sure your flashlight has batteries.
Forget the phrase, "What, did you get ready in the dark?" And if you are really against using old-school technology, be an innovator and use the flash on your phone as a flashlight. Once again, you'll be thanking Steve Jobs for being a genius.
