I never went through formal recruitment, so I can’t really speak for those who have, but I can only imagine how glamorous it is for PNM’s. However, on the other side of recruitment, I can’t say it’s as glamorous and fun. I love receiving new pledge classes as much as the next sister, but preparing for recruitment and going through as an active is much harder than you would expect. We recruit year around, but when this special weeks comes, you’re going to see all sorority girls stressing all day, every day. There’s so much preparation to be done, even before work week. There are many different struggles than an active can go through and I’m here to help you all prepare for the up and coming years (or this year if your recruitment week is currently happening or coming up soon).
1. Sleep.
Go on ahead and catch up on your sleep now because it's going to take weeks to catch up and gain a normal sleep schedule again.
2. Drink coffee before you begin your day.
Honestly, without caffeine, I probably would have crashed during one of the last parties from each night. You're going to be spending long nights recruiting girls and they deserve your full attention! So, you should do you both a favor and have some caffeine!
3. Wear comfy shoes.
Whether it's heels, wedges, or sandals, make sure that you're not going to be absolutely miserable in them because you're going to be on your feet for several hours. And with that being said...
4. Make sure your shoes fit.
So, either my foot grew or my shoes shrunk, because my toes were purple after each party this past recruitment... I would highly recommend double-checking to ensure that your shoes fit. Especially, the heels.
5. Wear/bring deodorant.
It's an extremely hot room, do your sisters and the PNM's a favor...
6. Bring snacks.
Your sorority may not always provide meals for the entire chapter, so you're left to provide for yourself - take advantage!
7. Drink hot tea.
You're going to need it after screaming cheers and chants at the top of your lungs for an entire week.
8. Don't get too attached.
We all have a 'Rush Crush.' It's going to be so heart breaking if she goes to a different sorority. And this heart break hurts worse than any breakup with a boyfriend.
9. Be real.
The best way to receive the best pledge class is to be yourself and share the diversity and unique qualities of your chapter to the PNM's.
There's probably so many more things that I could add to this list, but I felt that these were the most popular! I wish everyone a great recruitment week and a great school year for every chapter!
