Anyone who considers themselves a member of the religion that is "Gilmore Girls" knows that the four episode series revival is being released the day after Thanksgiving of this year.
It has been nine years since "Gilmore Girls" was last on air.
Nine. Years.
The hiatus has been too long.
Thus, when we sit down to submerge ourselves into the beautiful masterpiece that is Gilmore Girls, we must do it properly.
A few things to reach the ultimate level of comfort and happiness for binge-watching is as follows:
1. Comfiest comfy clothes to ever be comfortable.
2. The best food and snacks that could possibly be consumed.
3. Coffee coffee coffee.
The idea is that if you're going to religiously watch "Gilmore Girls", you have to do it like a Gilmore.
If you've seen the show, you've got to know what that means: jammies and blankets and sarcastic commentary all around.
To achieve ultimate comfy-ness, attire must be carefully chosen. The softest pants with the fluffiest inner fabric are a wonderful choice. A cotton t-shirt (maybe a Yale blue?) makes for a great top. Personally, my mother bought me a "Gilmore Girls" shirt that states "What she tackles, she conquers," a quotation said by the late Richard Gilmore. Fuzzy socks are a great plus! A good, comfortable wardrobe is a necessity for a successful binge-watching experience. Watching six hours of television is much more pleasant when we are surrounded by joy in the form of soft clothes.
When it comes to food, the Gilmores are the champions of stuffing their faces. Chinese, Mexican, Thai, pizza, pasta, Cosmic Brownies, popcorn, tater tots. Just about any food under the sun would be a perfect addition to the binge-a-thon (except for Indian food -- Lorelai doesn't like the smell)! It's very hard to go wrong when it comes to food and following in the footsteps of the Gilmores.
And of course, no revival would be complete without a cup of coffee. Or six. Coffee has been a constant in the lives of Lorelai and Rory. If we're going to do this right, there must be coffee! (If you don't like coffee, maybe make some hot chocolate and pretend it's coffee?)
We'll watch the return of our favorite characters as well as mourn the loss of some (RIP Richard Gilmore). We'll laugh and probably cry as the four episodes start up and wind down. If nothing else, there's one thing we can all be happy about: Alexis Bledel says the Rory won't end up with Dean. Thank God.
As "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" comes to Netflix, cuddle up under a blanket in your most comfortable pajamas, eat a boatload of food, and down some coffee all in the name of Gilmore.
