Breakups suck. Here are some tried and true ways to get over them!
1. Let yourself cry and feel sorry for yourself for one day.
Grab some tissues, avoid looking in a mirror for the day, and cry as much as you want. When the next day comes, it'll be time to pull yourself together and start moving on.
2. If it helps, write about it or talk to a friend.
Sometimes it can be beneficial to simply tell someone how you feel even if it doesn't change your situation. I'd avoid writing about it on Facebook or Twitter though; no one wants to see your emotional breakdown on social media!
3. Focus on you.
Be a little selfish and think about what's best for you. Go to the gym and get in shape. Now is not the time to let yourself go. Make them see what they're missing!
4. Treat yourself.
If you like pedicures, go get one! If you like reading, go buy yourself a new book! If you like brownies, buy a box and eat them all! My go-to treat after a break up is Ben and Jerry's Half Baked ice cream. There's nothing a pint of that ice cream can't cure.
5. Unfollow your ex on social media.
As tempting as it may be to stalk them on Instagram, it won't help you get over the breakup any faster. You won't want to see when they find someone new, and they shouldn't have the privilege of seeing your profile, either. If they didn't want to be a part of your life anymore, they shouldn't get to see it!
6. Go out with friends.
Grab dinner at your favorite restaurant and go see that movie you've been dying to see ever since you saw the preview for it! I recommend avoiding romantic movies though; it might be a little too soon.
7. Don't chase after your ex's affection.
If they wanted you, they wouldn't have broken up with you. Since they broke up with you, they clearly don't deserve you.
8. If it was a particularly nasty breakup, you might need some form of therapy.
I recommend having a bonfire, inviting all of your friends over, and lighting your ex's things on fire. (Only burn the things you acquired over the relationship; don't steal their things because that's illegal.)
9. Find a new hobby.
If you and your ex used to watch a television show together at the same time every week, try something different that night of the week. Go sit at a coffee shop and people watch for an hour, or maybe try joining a club. You can always record the show and watch it another night.
10. Change up your look.
If there is a haircut you've been thinking about trying, do it! If there's a tattoo you've had your eye on, I would give it some more time because those are permanent. Hair grows back, but tattoos are forever.
