Easier said than done

Every year we set some New Years Resolutions, but they’re easier said than done. By the time December 31st rolls around we realize that we never carried through with the resolutions we had set for ourselves in the beginning of the year. In 2018 its time to revisit the goals that we promised ourselves we’d achieve in 2017 but never really got the chance to. It’s important to make time in your life for the things you’ve been wanting to do and the routines you’ve been trying to add into your busy day-to-day schedules. Regardless of how much work is being piled onto you or how many responsibilities are on your plate, it’s important to focus on your time management skills and start doing the things you hoped to do in 2017.

Resolutions to revisit:

2017 Vs. 2018

1.

2017:

“Oh it’s fine I’ll just workout tomorrow or something, I’m too tired right now”

VS.

2018:

Book a workout class or sign up for a gym that will encourage you to start working out on a daily basis. No more snoozing your alarm to get in some more sleep or laying on the couch and watching T.V. If being acting and getting fit is something you promised yourself you’d do last year, nows the time.

2.

2017:

“It’s just some french fries, cake, and soda, I’ll just eat healthy next week.”

VS.

2018:

Time to substitute the junk food that you keep binge eating on a daily basis for greens, vegetables, and fruit. Keep healthy food and snacks around the house and grab a banana on the way to work instead of a bag of potato chips. If being healthy is something you promised yourself you'd do, it’s time to start making yourself healthier meals instead of giving in to greasy junk food.

3.

2017:

“My assignment was due yesterday but I completely forgot to do it. Whatever I’ll just take the bad grade again.”

VS.

2018:

Get organized with your assignments and school work and be on top of everything this year. If last year you promised yourself you’d get better grades and complete all of your assignments it’s time to manage your time and get assignments done by the due dates. Every missed assignment that you blow off will build up, till its another year of bad grades and wasted time.

4.

2017:

“She can find a way to get to school, I don’t feel like picking her up right now.”

VS.

2018:

Be selfless and kind to others. If you promised yourself in 2017 that you would loose your selfish attitude and start giving back to others, now is the time. Do small acts of kindness on a daily basis to those around you and stop being lazy and selfish by only doing things to benefit yourself.

These are some things and resolutions that you can easily achieve in 2018. No more blowing off the small things you promised yourself you would do or change about yourself. By the end of this year when looking back on the resolutions you set for yourself, you’ll feel fully accomplished, changed and ready to make even more resolutions and set the bar even higher for 2019.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
