They say college is the time for us to "find ourselves" right? Well, I can't speak for everyone, but college makes me feel more lost than ever. My mind seems to be running a mile a minute. I've thought about changing my major too many times and constantly feel uninspired because of the heavy stress that comes with university workload. Sometimes I sit and stare at my computer for hours before deciding on an article idea, which is strange, because I love to write. I feel like Harry Potter when he didn't want to be a wizard anymore.
Lately, I've been trying to generate some new ideas and excitement in my life. I've been trying new hobbies and revisiting old ones. I used to love to draw, but somewhere along the road I lost sight of the passion for it. So this semester I decided to enroll in a Drawing Fundamentals course. I thought that if I used to love it, then maybe I just have to get back into it.
So far, it's kind of working. I will admit that in the beginning of the course I was all in. Then as it went on, I got lazier and started to slack off and fall into the rut of losing the passion again. But recently, I've been pushing myself to actually spend more time on the projects. I think that sometimes when I'm feeling lost, it's because I choose to be. I stop caring as much when all I need to do is give myself a push and remember why I fell in love with it in the first place.
I guess my point is that when you're feeling lost, like you don't have the passion for something you used to love, just try it again. Just because you haven't been doing it lately doesn't mean you aren't still good at it. And it may not be easy to dive right back into. It may take time for you to redevelop the skill or feel the inspiration from it again, but don't stop trying.
As for finding new inspiration in my life, I recently decided on trying out vegetarianism. It's a very big lifestyle change for me, and it is definitely out of my comfort zone, but something was telling me I should give it a shot.
It actually hasn't been too much of a challenge so far, and it's brought a new sense of excitement to my everyday life. Now I have the opportunity to try foods I haven't before and learn more about a lifestyle I was unfamiliar with. It's early on in the journey for me, but I've already felt it becoming a new passion of mine.
If you're feeling lost, try something out of your comfort zone. Do something you never expected yourself to do and try to stick to it. There's always more things to learn about yourself, but you have to be open to new experiences to discover them.
I've also been looking into new hobbies that are unique. I have been flirting with the idea of joining an environmental group. Environmentalism is something I've always had an interest in; I even started a club called Green Acres when I was in middle school that helped spread awareness of deforestation and pollution. However, it's something I haven't pursued in a while.
I started looking online for groups around the area and have come across some really cool ones. I'm excited to give it a try and look forward to the new sense of purpose it could bring me.
When looking for a new hobby, try something that benefits more than just yourself. Doing something good for others or the community may help you learn more about yourself as well and lead you closer to finding your true identity.
In conclusion, if you are ever feeling a lost and uninspired by your everyday life, find the time to try something new. Whether it's a lifestyle change, a new hobby, or revisiting an old passion, there is always more of you to discover.
