The Art Of Enjoying A Quiet Morning

The best mornings are spent sitting still and sipping a cup of hot coffee.

If you know me, you know that I am not a morning person at all. I need a good hour or so in the morning to wake up before I have a conversation with anyone. The best way I like to spend my mornings is with a good cup of coffee, and of course some eggs, toast, and bacon for breakfast.

I don't know what it is, but I love sitting in the quiet and eating my breakfast without hearing anyone's voice. You may be thinking that I am not a people person, well, it turns out I love people, just not talking to me in the morning. It is perfectly okay to have some alone time in the morning before the day gets started. I used to feel a little guilty and selfish about not being a morning person, but I found that starting my day with just me, gets me ready to go and puts a smile on my face.

Perhaps part of the reason I do not like mornings is that when I hear my alarm clock go off, I know that there is a long to do list waiting to be completed. Instead of dreading the day, and stressing over a to-do list, I was advised to take just thirty seconds to a minute and sit completely still. I like to spend this time sipping a cup of coffee because, without coffee, I am like a walking zombie. We often get so caught up in doing things that we place ourselves on the back burner.

Taking care of ourselves is so important, and I have found that one simple way I can take care of myself is to enjoy a quiet morning before my day begins. Yes, at the end of that thirty seconds, that to do list will still be waiting to be completed, but I can guarantee that it will be a lot simpler to check off the to do's after spending a little time for yourself.

You may not be like me and may love mornings, and I commend you for that.

Seriously, the power to all the people who begin their day before the sun even rises. I encourage those people who love mornings, to slow down and take a minute to soak it all in.

Perhaps, watch the sunrise, pray, and read a devotional to slow things down. Enjoying the morning is a true art, and it takes a certain kind of person to sit back and soak it all in before the craziness begins. Even if it means taking one minute to sit in bed before getting up, enjoy that one minute under the mountain of covers before stepping foot and completing the to-do list that seems absolutely daunting to you. Sleep in, or wake up early, but whatever you do, enjoy it!

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
