It’s always somewhat difficult returning to school especially after a long well needed break. Although the academic work is something we could all do without, there are other aspects of college life which make going back a little easier.
Roomies/Friends
For most of us one of the things we most look forward to when returning to school is our roomies and friends. Sure, it’s always great coming home for break and seeing all your hometown friends, but you can’t help but miss the friends you’ve made at school. So when the time finally comes to begin a new semester it’s easier going back knowing that your besties will be there waiting for you and ready to be your emotional sponges for the upcoming term.
Productivity
I know it sounds weird, but for the most part this is another aspect which makes returning to school easier for us. I’m not talking about the productivity in terms of school work but rather social life. Although there’s nothing wrong with just kicking back and relaxing over break, it can sometimes become boring real quick when we don’t have some form of activity to do. This is why break can be difficult because we get so used to a cycle with school, that when we come back home we tend to break that cycle. When the time comes for us to return to school, we look forward to not just friends, but the school life and activities that we have grown to love over the months.
Being on your own
After a well needed break it’s always nostalgic returning to school and being on our own once again. Yes, we love our family and it’s always great seeing them after months of being away, yet it’s always bittersweet when the times comes to goodbye. This is because college life is always so much more than just school work and sleep deprivation. Returning to school gives us a sense of independence with being on our own, and allows us to experience new things and make lifelong friendships. It’s not about being away from our family, but being self-sufficient so that one day we can start our own.
Summer
One of the best things about the spring semester is that summer is just a few months away. We've anticipated summer break since elementary school and still do the same in college. It’s not only about the fact we don’t have academic work during this time, but have warm weather, new destinations and familiar faces as well.
I know the spring semester is sometimes the hardest to get through but trust me, it’s going to be okay. We’re only just a few months away from another break and new adventures!
