How To Clean Your Home
timewellspent.today

I've been feeling inspired lately. I know this is going to sound dumb, but I recently just got an iPhone 7. As I explore it more and more, I realize how endless the possibilities are, just with a little piece of technology (you're welcome, Apple, for the free advertising). So now, I'm just feeling inspired.

So inspired, that I decided to write an article about how to clean your apartment/home. I've realized throughout high school, college, and through the short time that I have been an adult, that when I clean my home, I'm so much more calm and productive. If you don't know my mom, she is the neatest of the neat, so I grew up in a home where everything had to be borderline perfect. Let me provide you with a checklist on how to clean your home.

First, make your bed. This is your cleaning surface. Pick up everything. Pick up your clothes, pick up your trash, pick up everything. Get ONE trash bag. This one trash bag is going to be you savior throughout this whole process. Throw all of the trash away in this one trash bag.Trash is not as big a problem to me as clothes are. Pick up your clothes, and then O-R-G-A-N-I-Z-E them. This is why I said before, that making the bed is important. The bed is your organization surface, so making the bed has a purpose. Once this is over, you're going to move on.

Second, move on to the bathroom. Everyone with a brain knows that the bathroom is the worst thing to clean. There are individual steps to this as well. Clean the sink first. Once the sink is clean, you're going to feel like the whole bathroom is clean, but, really, that's not true. My sink gets really dusty, so I actually need to clean it often. After the sink is clean, go ahead and clean the inside of the shower. The shower at my apartment clogs really easily because of my long golden locks. Also, I like to use bath bombs, and my shower is a shower/tub, so I'm trying to make sure that that stay clean for bath time. Do the toilet last. The toilet is the grossest, but the easiest out of all of these things. Just give it some disinfectant, and a good brushing, and you're good to go.

Third, we're moving onto the kitchen. The first thing that needs to happen here, is to take care of all of the dishes. Load the dishwasher, unload the dishwasher, I don't care, just do this. It will be easier to wipe off the counters and all of the appliances if there's nothing in your way.

Fourth, every single surface needs to be cleaned off and dusted. Have you ever heard someone say something like, "Wow, it smells very clean in here." Yeah, that's because you just dusted EVERY single surface in your home.

Last but not least, sweep everywhere. If you have extra rugs in the bathroom or the kitchen, take them outside and shake them. You don't need to wash them or anything, that's pointless and a waste of your time. Just shake them outside. After you do that, set them aside, and sweep. Sweep the kitchen floor, sweep the bathroom floor, and vacuum the rest of your home. As soon as you finish this, then you'll start to feel like you've really accomplished something, and the deed is done.

If you're feeling really frisky, you can also do laundry, I mean, your bed is already made and that's the perfect folding spot. OH, and another thing, don't watch TV while you're doing this because you will absolutely get nothing done at all (this is possibly from experience). Also, my mom, the neatest person I know, thinks a Swiffer is called a Swifter.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
