Finding a way to be productive in college can be hard. There are a ton of distractions, and it can be hard to really get focused on what you need to do. It is easy to find yourself in an unmotivated rut…not knowing how to get out. Besides, there are a million other things that you would rather be doing than that 14-page English paper.
Being productive can be hard, but especially in college. Here are some ways to increase productivity in school and in your life:
1. Find a way to get motivated!
This one is the most obvious, but it is the first step to being productive. Finding motivation to do whatever you need to get done is huge. Without it, there seems like no point in trying. Look to your friends, families, professors, online…anything/anyone to motivate you. Try to also find motivation within your self, since that is truly what’s important.
2. Do some research.
Whenever I’m feeling unproductive and overwhelmed with what I have to do, I do some research online. I mainly confide in Pinterest, and am glad that I do. Websites like Pinterest have great tips for how to get motivated, increase productivity, and do well in school and organize your life. They have great tips for studying, homework, and time management. Check it out for yourself!
3. Set aside some time.
When you have a lot to do, and need to be productive, setting aside some time to work will be extremely beneficial. Setting a time limit or setting time to get things done will help increase productivity, and help you get each thing done. Make set time increments for each task that you need to do, and work until time is up! This will make you work not only faster, but also harder.
4. Get rid of distractions.
I’m sure that you can agree with me when I say our lives are filled with distractions. Our phones, laptops, social media networks, friends…they can all be extremely distracting when you’re trying to be productive. When you want to get something done, put all of those things on pause and get focused. Turn off your phone, shut your laptop, and meet up with your friends later.
5. Make a list.
Making a list of everything that you have to do will greatly increase your productivity. Being able to physically see what you have to do will make you more motivated to do it, since you can see a list of all of your tasks.
6. Find inspiration.
One of the keys to getting motivated is to seek inspiration. Sometimes inspiration will seek us, but a lot of the times we have to make the effort to find something that will inspire our work. Whether it’s a TED talk, a podcast, a book, or a friend…find some inspiration to start your day. This will lead to increased productivity and your willingness to work … and do a great job!
7. Don’t be lazy.
Being lazy, like said above, is something that deeply interferes with our will to motivate ourselves. Laziness only distracts us from what we should we doing, and it in no way pushes us to get things done. Realize that life is so much more than laying in bed all day, and get up and get motivated! You will thank yourself later.
8. Realize.
Another key to motivation is realization. If you realize that you can do something, and that the results will pay off eventually, this way of thinking can lead to great success for you. Realize that you CAN do something, and that you WILL do something. This way of positive thinking will change your day and attitude, and make you feel more motivated than ever.
9. Find a friend.
Finding motivation with a friend, or having them motivate you, will change your lazy ways. Having a friend to help you get motivated is one of the best ways to go about whatever you’re doing. Whether it’s weight loss, finishing homework, studying … anything. A friend can really help you grasp some motivation to help you complete your goals.
10. Reward yourself.
Motivation is hard to find, so when you get it, reward yourself! Appreciate your motivation, and do something happy to celebrate you getting something done. It will make you want to continue to be motivated, and strive for your goals.
Although being productive in college can be hard sometimes, taking simple steps to improve your productivity skills will be very beneficial. If you follow these simple tips, though, you’ll be on your way to one motivated and productive life...and attitude!
