For all us single girls, Valentine’s Day is not our favorite holiday. That does not mean we have to succumb to the Hollywood image of spending the day alone watching romantic movies and stuffing our faces with chocolate, although I am not opposed to the chocolate part. Instead of dreading this singles awareness day, why not plan a party? Gather up all of your other single friends and throw the ultimate Valentine's Day party that will make your in-a- relationship friends wish they were not so Facebook official.
The first step is figuring out who to invite. The more friends the better, so don’t be too choosy here. Next, you are going to need decorations. Go to your local party store, or a place like Target, and look for anything with hearts on it. Heart streamers, heart centerpieces, heart plates and napkins, you get the picture. If you want some DIY options, look on Pinterest for some creative ideas!
After you have rounded up the decorations, it is time to start thinking about food. Valentine’s Day is all about the sweets, so anything chocolate is a yes; brownies, chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate cake, chocolate soufflé, etc. If you have a chocolate fountain, now is definitely the time to use it. Other dessert ideas include macaroons, sugar cookies (heart-shaped, of course), rice crispy treats, and cheesecake. If you want to serve some real food, I suggest everyone’s favorite- pizza. For drinks, try serving something festive, like a Shirley Temple.
The most important part of the event is keeping your guests entertained. Movies are always a good idea, but you want to keep the mood light so I recommend romantic comedies or other feel-good films. If you want a livelier atmosphere, try playing some Valentine’s Day themed games. Turn the average Jenga game into something your friends would enjoy by writing things to do on each block, such as “tell a secret” or “what’s the craziest thing you’ve done?” You could also set up your own photo booth by buying fun props, such as feather boas and tiaras. Make a creative background against a wall and you are good to go!
The most important thing to remember when throwing a party is to have fun with it! Don’t get stressed with the details and just go with the flow. You can ask your friends to bring a yummy treat if you don’t want to make everything yourself. Once all of your single gals are mixing and mingling, everything will fall into place. Have fun and remember that Valentine’s Day is meant to be spent with people you love, so what better way to spend it than with all of your best girlfriends?
