Ok ladies buckle up because you know what time it is. That's right it is time to get in FORMATION. That's right, on June 3rd, 2016, yours truly was in the presence of the one true Queen, Beyoncé.
It all happened at about 9 pm at Gillette stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts the queen graced us with her presence and one of the best nights of my life began.
The concert began with a blank stage filled with nothing but a giant white box that confused a lot of the fans, including me. When the sun had finally set the lights of the stadium went out and so did the lights on the giant box. Then... BAM! Videos began to appear on all sides of the box and the familiar twangs from the opening of Beyoncé's "Formation" began to play. Her dancers walked on stage and, unbeknownst to the fans, so did Beyoncé from the opposite side.
She opened the show with "Formation" wearing a gorgeous black dress/leotard and flawlessly dancing along with her dancers. She finished her first set and went to do a costume change emerging in yet another gorgeous ensemble. I swear every time she sang a note I got chills down my spine and tears formed in my eyes. Beyoncé is one of those artists who sounds amazing live and just as amazing pre-recorded. By far some of my favorite moments of the show were when she slowed it down and just sang with little to no theatrics, just her, a microphone and the stage.
My most favorite part though was when she came out in an amazing black and gold leotard and walked to the smaller stage attached to the main stage by a runway and sang, a cappella, one of her best songs "Love On Top". She did it in a sort of sing-a-long ways where the crowd joined in and sang with her as loud as they could, because lets be honest are you even a Beyoncé fan if you don't know the lyrics to "Love On Top"?
Another amazing part was the finale where she officially slayed me. She filled the smaller stage up with about a half a foot or so of water and her and her dancers stood in it while she sang. Then during the chorus of her song "Freedom" they started to dance, kicking up the water and splashing it around creating an amazing visual effect.
She ended the show with her iconic song "Halo", another song that if you don't know the lyrics to you are clearly not a true "Bey-Hive" member. This of course made me cry immediately not only because I was at the Beyoncé concert or because she has an amazing voice but because the lyrics in that song are powerful and the best to listen to when you need strength.
Say what you want about Beyoncé but I love her and I love all she stands for. I love the fact that she is bringing to light problems in this world that need to be addressed. From supporting female empowerment to fighting for the rights for all children regardless of race or sex to have access to education. She is an amazing person with amazing vision and a great head on her shoulders. I will always be a Beyoncé fan and if I get another chance to see her live in concert I will do it again in a heart beat.
