From the time we start kindergarten to the time we graduate college we have a lot of professors and teachers that have stepped into our lives. Throughout the years there have been a few teachers that stick out to me as the teachers that have helped me become who I am. Growing up I had a lot due to moving a lot, but there were always the same types of teachers.
First the elementary school teachers. There was a teacher that everyone loved. You could always walk into their classroom and feel welcome. They were the fun teacher that everyone hoped to get before we move on to middle school. As always there was the teacher that everyone hated. The “mean” teacher if you will, but this teacher taught us a lot more than hatred. This teacher taught us to hold on to what we love and to never let go. Some learned to love reading after being forced by the “mean” teacher. There were those teachers in between sometimes we loved them and sometimes we didn’t. These teachers have helped us by laying the bases for learning.
Next the middle school teachers. Now is the time that we started having to get used to schedules and having more than one teacher. Yet again there were those core teachers. The one that we loved having in middle school and the one we hated, but now there are new categories. There are the teachers that made learning fun and the teachers that made it hard claiming they were preparing us for high school. During this time in our lives we learn which teachers we feel more comfortable talking to and which we don’t. Whether its because we liked them or because we were scared of them. We somehow found a teacher to talk to before school or after school. The teachers that we have during this time in our lives help mold us into young adults.
High school teachers. At this time we’re starting to figure out what we want to do in life. We start finding who we really want to be. The teachers that we come across can be something different than were used to. There can be the crazy English teacher that adopts a bunch of misfits and makes them feel welcomed and loved. That crazy English teacher and even the really cool Spanish/English/Drama teacher without knowing or maybe they do, created a safe haven for the kids that are different and love being different but to see have a teacher that’s different and owns it makes them feel ten times better. Then there’s the teacher that are also the coaches. Those teachers share a bond with their students like the crazy English teacher does. That bond is understanding. Then there were the teachers we liked or disliked but don’t exactly have that same bond with. As always there are the teachers that try to prepare you for college, but honestly, no one could prepare you for this different types of professors. In high school, we come across a lot of teachers. These teachers help us figure out who we want to be as we grow up. They teach us about people and those people did to help shape our minds and our own thoughts.
Finally, college professors. I have not been in college long, but I have been here long enough to that even now as “grown ups” we have professors that we like and dislike. There are the teachers that bring us joy to be going to their class and others that make us want to skip, but we don’t because let's be honest we're paying for those classes so why not go. We still have the super fun loving professors and we still have those teachers that we hate. Our college professors help lay the last bricks of education although we are never truly done learning. The professors that have helped us to become better people.Overall, I want to say thank you to all of these teachers. For teaching me lessons that go beyond the lesson plan.
