The Cost Of Beauty

Pain, precision and then some

The Cost Of Beauty

Someone once said “Beauty is pain.” Whoever came up with the quote was absolutely right! As a woman, we do a lot. Not just to grab the attention of a guy, but to also make ourselves feel good. So when we look in the mirror, we say “Who’s got the juice? You got the juice.” From waist trainers, heels, MAC, NARS, and everything else, I would say beauty is pain, pricey, and precision.

I would define beauty as to what is on the inside and not the outward appearance. Beauty is the smile or that awkward laugh. Beauty is the bubbly personality or the feisty attitude. Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. Whatever one may find attractive, someone else may find not so appealing. But you love who you love and in this case we love the outward beauty. Ladies, I’m not going to try and expose our little secrets, but I may have to (Sorry).

1. Beauty is Pain

Beauty does equal pain, patience, time, and practice. But when it’s all said and done, it’s a masterpiece. Between installing extensions and wearing five inch heels, we hurt ourselves to look pretty. We always want to look bomb when we walk through the door. It could be a birthday, going to class, or just to the store. We never want to get caught without our face beat, hair and eyebrows on fleek. We always have to make sure that our lips are on and waist trainer is tight. It also hurts when we spend a mad amount of money on these products.

2. Beauty is Pricey

About how much does a woman spend on her makeup? Between primer, concealer, foundation, liner(eye/lip), lipstick, and what every else one may like, the price adds up! I am not an avid makeup wearer, so of course I would say makeup is too much. But even a person like my mother says it’s too much but she continues to support her “drug.” As soon as she runs out of her shade, she automatically goes to MAC and they know why she’s there. It’s sad to say that but it’s very true. Beauty doesn’t just consist of makeup and heels, but it consists of hair and the products that come along with it. From the curling wand, color, and paying for the hair as well as the installation. Don’t forget manicures, pedicures, acrylic/gel tips and lashes.

3. Beauty is Precision

This one may be something new you guys haven’t heard of but it’s easy to understand. The lasted trend has been eyebrows. We simply fill them in with the pencil or brush, use concealer to highlight and blend. I know it sounds like a hassle, but it gets done and done correctly. When a woman does this, she doesn’t want the brow to look fake, too thin or too wide. Even when it boils down to highlighting, contouring, and the applying of the false lashes, women make sure everything is precise and on point. She doesn’t want the lashes to be too long, and doesn’t want her highlighting/contouring to look a mess.

I know, ladies, you’re probably thinking,” DAMN! She’s just going to spill all the beans.” Whereas, fellas are thinking they need to be on the lookout for all of this. Well ladies, I wasn’t spilling the beans, just trying to help you realize that beauty is pain, and then some. And fellas, don’t think a woman is ugly without her “beauty,” just be mindful that what you see Saturday night, might not be the same on Sunday morning. So still love her awkward laugh, good cooking, and patience she has for you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
