How To Survive College
The Light of Right

A student's college years are one of, if not the most stressful period in a person's life. They have to be worry about balancing a social life on top of excelling in academics, being involved in extra-curricular activities and trying to land a job after they graduate. For some people, working in school builds a higher level of stress as working hours makes it more difficult to succeed in school. The solution may seem simple as it is easier said than done.

Time Management

A student must set his/her daily activities in a daily schedule to be more sufficient in balancing college life. Without a daily schedule, a student is most likely to forget what he/she has planned for the day and some of it maybe very important. Setting a daily schedule also makes the student more responsible not just in college, but later in life as well.

Working Hard To Get And Maintain A Great GPA.

A GPA doesn't necessarily determine a student's intelligence, but it gives an impression of what kind of student a student is. The question is what is working hard? Working hard can fall under various things such as efficient studying, communicating with professors and peers, doing well on tests and quizzes and turning in assignments on time. In order to do well in academics, one must do at least one of the following that was mentioned. Everyone has that one class that they need extra practice time in order to do well. If a student is having a hard time grasping certain content then they must go to the professor's office hours. Going to a professor's office hours lets the professor know how serious his/her student is taking the class. Even if the student is doing well in the class it is also great to visit sometimes as it also builds relationships and the student will need teacher recommendations for internships and graduate school applications. Also, on the first day of classes, the student will receive a syllabus from his/her professor. It is the student's duty to read and study the syllabus as it is an outline for the class. The professor will go over it once and the rest is up to the student.

Stay Focused

While it is great to have fun and wonder new experiences, a student must remember the primary reason of why he/she is in college; which is to graduate. There have been many instances where freshmen cannot return their second semester due to poor grades and just going out more than doing their work. Even if a student has a great GPA after his/her freshman year, that person still has to maintain it. There are some circumstances when a student starts off with a 4.0, but graduates with a high 2 or low 3 GPA. A college student should not let up into being lazy since it can lead to a bad path. It is great to meet other people not only in the specific college/university, but different colleges and universities as well. A student may never know who they will meet and what connection that will take them in the future professionally

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
