How to Survive Finals Week

Finals. We all have them. Whether it's a final paper, a final presentation, or the dreaded final exam we all feel the tension and horrifying pressure of finals week. But it doesn't have to be all bad! Maybe this article can give you some ways to help you survive finals week.

11. Plan it out.

Plan out what you are going to study for, when your exam is, and when you are going to study for it.

10. Study in the subjects you struggle in a little more.

This may be a little trivial, but we often try to study the same amount of time for every single class.

9. Take advantage of your TA's/Study Groups.

Not only can they help with your score, they can help boost your morale.

8. Have that breakdown, if you need to.

It's perfectly natural for us to cry and wail and sob and hit things at least once during the treacherous week. So do that, don't bottle all that up and tuck it away, because chances are that you won't do as well in your exam if you just let it all out.

7. Drink Coffee.

Coffee is as much a stimulant as it is a relaxant. It can not only liven you up to get through that book that was assigned to you at the last minute, it can mellow you out and allow you to concentrate more.

6. Eat.

I'm not your mother. I shouldn't have to remind you to eat. But we can often get so caught up in the rustle and bustle of trudging through the week that we neglect eating a good meal at the very least twice per day. Having a good healthy meal -- not one burger from McDonald's at six in the morning after your all-nighter you pulled for your final at three -- is good for you mentally and physically.

5. Sleep.

Sleep is good. Sleep is important for your health, mentally and physically. Sleep. More than 8 hours.

4. Don't work yourself to death.

We've always been taught that cramming doesn't work. So don't try to be the demi-god of finals by cramming every bit of notes into your brain in the week.

3. Take a break every day.

I always try to allot two hours every day to doing nothing but relaxing. It may not take that long for you, but because I'm lazy, two hours before I go to bed sounds great. Sit and watch some Netflix, read a book for leisure, plan out your Christmas shopping. DO SOMETHING OTHER THAN STUDY!

2. Talk to other people.

Don't become a hermit during finals week. It's just not good. Holing yourself up in the depths of your room, working only by the light of a desk lamp, and drinking coffee straight out of the pot is not the way to do it.

1. Celebrate when it's over.

You made it. Whether you think you passed or think you failed, celebrate that you survived. Because that in and of itself, is the real test of finals week.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
