Here's to all the broke college students out there who are struggling right along with the rest of us to make ends meet. I can only hope that if we follow these tips, we'll graduate with more than a gum wrapper and $0.50 in our wallets.
1. Fill up on coffee before heading onto campus so you aren't tempted to buy something to eat, or everything, in sight.
2. Save all your change then head (sprint) over to the nearest bank to cash it all in for some extra money.
3. Sell your unwanted items online; people will buy literally anything so take advantage of them... I mean it, take advantage of it.
4. Put to good use what your mother has taught you and use as many coupons as possible, and after you hit the limit, keep handing them to the cashier so he gets flustered and forgets he wasn't supposed to scan those.
5. Keep snacks in your room, and every time you think about ordering pizza at 3 am, eat your granola bars and popcorn instead so you save that $10.
6.When free food is being given away, you make sure you're the first one in line and you brought at least 3 different hats so you can disguise yourself and go back multiple times.
7. Avoid using uber or taxis because they add up fast; instead, think of your walk uptown as your exercise for the weekend.
8. Stay away from the mall. For your own sake, just stay as far away as possible.
9. Don't keep a lot of cash in your wallet all at once, if it isn't there, you can't spend it.
10. Try and keep a budget, a realistic budget...not one meant for a millionaire: if you have a specific one you're trying to stick to it's easier to save.
11. Embrace being a student and having a school ID, and use as many discounts as you're offered.
12. Never get your textbooks from the school bookstore, they will rob you for all you're worth, which may only be like $11 but you get the point.
13. Ask for a cup of water instead of bottled when you go out to eat, 99% of the time they won't charge you...congrats, you beat the system.
14. Pick up as many small jobs as you possibly can to keep some sort of flow of money coming into your wallet.
15. Carpool with as many people as you can possibly fit into your car, safely, of course.
To all college students out there and those alike, I wish you luck. Happy saving.
